Just read in this week's Autocar: "Due on sale in 2006, the Mini Mk2 will be longer, wider and taller..."

Then it's not MINI is it!!!!

It's not even especially mini now, is it? Strange how the memory of a specific shape can have an effect on the impression of size (as my wife of twenty years keeps telling me!)

Expect the MINI Maybach competitor by 2008!

Its always been the case I am afraid.

The Mini has always been seen by the BMW higher ups as the BMW 1 Series.

They didnt buy the car or the enthusiasts or the history but the brand plain and simple. The current Mini was created as such to appease the British public as it just wouldnt have sold if it didnt keep something of the last 40 years glorious heritage but this iteration of the car was strictly speaking a vanity release that would revamp the Mini brand and have a large take up in the home market.

Unfortunately it seems to have worked.

The greatest car ever made and they ruin it with one stroke of the Bosch pen.

Matt.

I'm sure I remember reading that the germans suggsted a larger version of the MINI called just that to the Cowley bosses, who had to try and explain why it was a shit idea with a straight face!!!

Allegro?
"Quartic" (square) steering wheel? - Could be very Germanic.

If it all follows the trend, it should be so small on the inside that only toddlers will fit.

Only the Germans could make the current Mini so that it's huge from the outside, has less space inside than a Ford Ka, yet is more expensive than a Ford Focus.

Quality motor, and I must say that the later "improved" Allegros did not have square steering wheels.

So there.

'new mini' was designed and engineered by Rover IIRC...

sad then that BMW gets to take the credit for the only quality bit of kit to come out of Gaydon/Longbridge for years.

bit off topic there - yes I agree, it's categorically not mini, and not a mini!

They should build the concept AC30 (sounds like a speeding fine?) they made a few years ago to commemorate the Monte wins!
