A4 1.8T - Just been seriously impressed!
Discussion
A mate's just stopped by to give me a celebratory pie and to show of his new company car.
Here are my impressions.
Best build quality of any car ever experienced.
Best slushbox ever (multitronic) - zero notchiness.
Impressive acceleration for one so seemingly mundane.
Awesome stability - 120 felt dangerously solid.
Tremendous refinement on all surfaces/at all speeds.
Excellent ergonomics and confy, supportive seats.
All cubby holes and storage doors beautifully damped.
(Superb Bose designed multi-CD sound system.)
Nice engine note when heading for the horizon.
All in all, brilliant.
Frankly, I now know that my next saloon commuto barge will be German and at this moment that means the RS6.
What 450 bhp from this lot feels like (cos this 160 was far from poor) I cannot imagine.
Utterly, utterly superb, end of story.

I love the idea of the multitronic - theoretically you should be able to program the firmware to give you whatever gear ratios you want - so a set of close ratios for country twisties, then another set for town driving etc.
Shame they haven't made it robust enough to offer with the high power variants yet - surely will happen in time though.

I won't go through the list of things that has gone wrong with it, but thank God its a company car so some other unlucky bugger will have the displeasure of owning it in the end.
