Having sold my 2 beloved Peugeot hot hatches (205 1.9 gti & a 1.6 106 Rallye) to fund last year's expedition, I have been without wheels for quite some time

Until now, that is. With a champion bit of blagging, I'm now tooling around in a spanking new Audi A3 1.9Tdi SE. It wouldn't be the first thing I'd blow 18 grand of my own money on, but for the princely sum of nought pounds and nought pence, I could hardly turn my nose up at it.

And what a machine it is. 130bhp is a limp-wristed figure in my books, but hang on a minute - 230lb ft of torque going through the front wheels?! But that's more than an Escort Cosworth!! (or an Integrale Evo/Boxster S/etc etc!!)

And when you're fed up with peeling tarmac off the roads, you can sit back, relax (in the leather sports seats) and enjoy one of the best oe sound systems I've heard (Harmon Kardon). Splendid new toy.

Happy chappy? Oh yes...

Happy New Year to one and all
