The gunman at the centre of London's longest armed siege is still resisting pressure to give himself up after 13 days.
Police negotiators resumed contact with the man on Monday after a 24-hour silence.

The gunman stopped communicating following the escape of his only hostage on Sunday afternoon, despite police using loudhailers and an air raid siren to pile on the pressure.

Metropolitan Police Commander Bob Quick described the conversation as "mildly encouraging".

It is cold, he has no food and there is no electric light or running water

Police talked to the hostage on Monday, who was said to have been "very helpful" in providing details of what was going on inside the flat.

Cmdr Quick told BBC News 24 on Monday: "Clearly this individual no longer has the psychological support of someone else in the flat with him.

"It is cold, he has no food and there is no electric light or running water. All these things are accumulating and adding pressure."

Police are still reluctant to storm the flat and hope the gunman will give himself up peacefully rather than forcing him into a shoot-out in the street.

The man has already fired on armed officers when they tried to enter the flat on Boxing Day and shots were fired twice on Sunday.

Cmdr Quick said: "We are not prepared to precipitate events in a way that would lead to an armed man coming out onto the streets."

The siege began when officers were fired on as they tried to remove a car from outside the flat for forensic tests.

WTF? Just shoot the twat.

OK, when he had a hostage, fair enough, but he's on his own in a flat, with no utilities or food.

Aparently they way to keep him alive so they can talk to him about other criminal activity.

So, he's taken someone hostage, shot at the police, shot through walls, hasn't eaten for a couple of weeks, cost us up to half a million pounds, inconvenienced tens of locals. How helpful do they think he'll be?

Or have I missed the point entirely?

They are probably scared that he might sue them for some reason. Threatening to be slighty iffy towards him or something.

Can't they just tear gas the bastard? My theory is that it is a copper and they made this little scheme to get lots of overtime over Christmas. Triple time anyone?

Can't they slip a mickey finn into the food he's requesting or something?

But frankly I don't care whether this guy lives or dies. Brick through the window followed by a rather large hand grenade. Let's see you negotiate with that you hostage taking twat.

Or couldn't they just block up the windows and doors from the outside (to seal him in) and then let the bastard rot. If they were soundproof the neighbours could get back to daily life again and all the police could go home and come back in two weeks to pick up the corpse.

look - they probably want to shoot him as much as we want them to, but we all know that if he did, there'd be a million Grauniadistas bouncing off the walls complaining that there was evidently no reason to shoot him as he was on borrowed time without running water and heating..

In short, the right course of action (shooting him) would invoke their worst publicity nightmare and inspite of orders from above the copper who took the shot would probably end up being hung out to dry, either with his career in tatters or even end up doing time for it..

This country is too bloody soft an it's priorities are all wrong..

Bring back the death penalty and the birch.

Easy solution.

Hes got a handgun right, so thats about a 17 shot magazine at the outside.

So get 30 life prisoners, smash the door down and start them running. He'll drop a max of 17 of them leaving the other 13 to subdue him.

Ideal!

I heard on the radio that he is wanted for questioning for 'other offences' so I suspect that is why they don't just shoot him.

Paper also said they have tried poisoned food but I guess he must not be as stupid as he sounds!

Set fire to the place, that would get him out!!

In the sllightest defence of Met conduct the flats in the same block as this sc*mbag have people trapped in them who the police cannot or will not evacuate. This makes any use of force to bring the situation to an end more difficult to plan and execute successfully. Still no excuse - perforate the tw@t at the first possible opportunity - otherwise it'll be yet another chance for the parasite lawyers to get their ample share of taxpayers' money as they rape this country.

wouldnt worry about it. at least he isnt costing the tax payer £500,000. no wait. my mistake

1) smash window
2) get fireman to hose water through window
3) play S Club Juniors loud on PA system
4) let him suffer an irritating, freezing, wet night or 10

They're now talking about getting the SAS in! My God, hostage taking is going to be the new way to show off to your mates! (If you're scum, that is)

If he doesn't shoot himself (and he's be silly not to), he'll probably get let off loads of time if he grasses a few mates up. No doubt he'll sue the Police for not feeding and heating him, sell his story and retire to Aston.

Actually, I don't live too far away, anyone got a gun/grenade I can borrow, i'll bring it right back

As of 18:43 GMT, The UK is now officially

Attacking somebody in their own house or apartment is more difficult.
With regard to no. of rounds per mag, he could have more than one mag, he could have a reloading machine!
I assume they have knocked out all the windows and are just trying to keep him awake so that should it be neccessary to use force he will not be "at his best".
Sleep deprivation is a safe tactic, no use a Policeman getting shot even if he did give you a ticket last week.
But if this approach is not followed by a charge of attempted murder, then I agree with the rest of you guys. Blast him!

Attacking someone in their own home isn't a problem, if they do anything to hurt you, you can point out that they have a duty of care (even if you are trying to blow their head off) to ensure your safety!! and everyone knows that not making sure an axe weilding murderer is safe is a much worse crime than hostage taking.... Simple

I read this on the telegraph on Sunday:

A man accused of trying to smuggle cannabis to the gunman at the centre of a nine-day siege in east London has appeared before magistrates.

Junior Skerrett is alleged to have hidden a small parcel of the drug in a bucket of takeaway fried chicken that he gave to officers at the scene. Police have been delivering fast food to the gunman - believed to be Eli Hall, 32 - and a man he is holding hostage.

Skerrett, 22, unemployed, of Brixton, south London, is understood to have asked officers to deliver the chicken on Dec 29. Officers discovered the drugs during a precautionary search.

The following day, Skerrett asked police to deliver a second bucket but was arrested when another batch of cannabis was found.

I love it!! He does it once. Then TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
