I take your point that this would be a great gag.....BUT...doesn't this program raise some bloody serious questions about the competence of the civil servants employed by this country? How the hell can someone walk in and get a birth certificate without any verification of the person's right to have such a document?
I think heads should roll immediately. I'm bloody fed up with the lack of accountability that riddles the administration of this country. FFS when is someone going to start to put the screws on? I was with some Americans when I watched this program - they thought it was a comedy show and couldn't take it seriously.
Afterwards we decided that the most attractive business development opportunity we could launch was a mini document shredder that could sit next to the toaster. After opening the mail at breakfast - shred the evidence, don't put it in the bin. And don't let estate agents have the keys to your home - Bradford & Bungle-it gave the house-sellers keys to the rogue surveyor so he could wander round and collect bills off the mat - then assume identities and get credit cards issued!
God! I'm so mad

Only by a couple of hours, if that makes you feel any better!
Anyway, I shouldn't worry because it was on BBC1, so it'll be on UK Horizons, BBC Choice, BBC3, BBC4, and probably Red Hot Wives within a week...
You're right hut, heads should roll.. I know a coupe of civil servants who regularly get kick backs from private eyes for running traces on people. They do run spot checks to find out who is looking at whose details, but not often enough as far as I am concerned. I'm sure its just a minority of those with access to the systems, but it shouldn't happen..
here's some info to be getting on with

It was a bit scary, seeing the presenter get a driving licence in the name of David Blunkett. Provisional, mind.
I disagree with the presenter though....it's not a matter of national security if some muppet tries to pass themselves off as Two Jags or Bliar....just a bit of a surprise for Tone when the baliffs knock at No 10 and ask for the money for the 200 credit cards he's applied for.....

Greg, it was actually the Home office's comment not that of the presenter, they could obviously not admit they were completely incompetent!
They didn't need to

An some experts think that the proposed ID card will make this even easier. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2637927.stm
