Another rant - is today rant day.
Discussion
Last night, on her way home from work, Mrs Bug noticed a white Nova sitting about 3 inches off her rear bumper as she pulled up to some lights. Didn't think much of it as this is fairly normal behaviour in Leeds!!
Turned left at the lights and the car followed her, still sitting right up her a
e. After about 100 yards, car tried to overtake her as another car was coming in the opposite direction. Both my wife and the car coming the other way had to swerve to miss the little scrote, and both used their horns and light to express their disapproval. The Nova shot off up the road. As my wife came around the corner she saw the Nova reversing back down the middle of the road, she slammed opn the brakes and as she couldn't get passed she started to reverse as well. At this point another cars headlights appeared behind and the Nova shot off again. She was very shaken by this and let the other car pass, rang me and continued up thte road, only to find the Nova reversing down the road again. She had the option to turn right so did so and pulled into a laybye to speak to me on the phone, assuming the car wouldn't follow her. Ther Nova then shot round the corner and past her, it then stopped, reversed and shot towards her. The scrote in the back then opened the door as they headed towards her and banged it against the car as she sat there. The Nova then disappeared down the road. My wife was a gibbering wreck by this point, but had managed to take the reg number of the car. I called the police and notified them of the incident, the reg number and the location of the incident. To be fair the girl on the end of the phone was very good and even called my wife back to ensure that she was now OK.
As She was only about 10 minutes from home she managed to drive the rest of the way, but was shaking like a leaf when she got home and it took several cups of tea and a whiskey to calm her down.
I would like to say that the police have been very good, 2 officers turned up within 30 minutes and took all of the details. They also called back later to say the car had been stolen (surprised - not really) and had been found dumped in Killingbeck (a nice part of Leeds). They were however doing a full fingerprint sweep and hoped to find something. It helps that Mrs B got a good look at the scrote pearing out the rear window and would recognise him again given the chance
As an incidental question, there are a nmber of scratches and dents down the side of the car which will need repairing. Will this affect the NC Bonus on the insurance, as it has been reported as a crime. Also if anyone is convicted (

would we be able to sue for cost of damage and mental anguish.
Final Postscript is that Mrs Bug is OK this morning, but likely to batter to death anyone who upsets her today!!

I don't know what to say apart from I'm mightily glad to hear Mrs Bug is okay. It must have been an absolutely terrifying experience. I had an experience a little like that but nowhere near as terrifying and that shook me up. Again the police were very good when I reported the incident. Luckily no damage was done to the car, just my nerves. I always drive with my door locked now.

little gits. Glad the Mrs is ok. However, regarding the NCB question, the insurance company will want their pound of flesh either way.
Unfortunately, the fact that its been reported as a crime will not affect it at all (in a positive way!). It simply means that they won't have anybody to recover the costs from, so your NCB/renewal will be shafted.

Perhaps a defensive driving or a similar course would help MrsBug avoid such a situation in the future..
Not the ideal answer is it, but unfortunately, it's easier to protect yourself from society than change society...
Also, teach her that running threatening scrotes over is both expedient and cathartic.
I once pulled innocently and safely onto a petrol forecourt (Star/Texaco?) on Armley Road in Leeds when a behemoth lunatic decided he didn't like me crossing his path and proceeded to liberate a fire extinguisher from the forecourt and throw it at my windscreen.
Having taken an evasive manoeuvre so that the extinguisher galnced off my bonnet I drove at the fcuker, full pelt. He narrowly avoided me, my never having intended to actually hit him, but cut it close. When he saw me reversing back towards him with vigour he legged it and scrambled over a metal gate. Fcuker.
(Wrong perhaps, but the red mist came down and he was about twice my size - I didn't fancy trading fire appliances with him.)

You're brave! Being Southern, I'd have driven straight at him for sure, then carried straight on out the other end of the forecourt, and gone to find a proper Shell station.

After being mugged myself (at a cash machine, not in my car) I always tend to keep the passenger side sealed and reflexively flick the driver's latch (no CL, how '80's!) when I smell trouble.

Yup I've done the old trying to run down the scrotes that attacted me. Unfortunaltely I missed but if I'd hit them then I would have reversed over them as well.
The amusing thing is I'd have gotten away with it as well cos when I reported the assault the police said they'd check the CCTV camera in the area only to report that it was facing completley the wrong way.
I have now taken on the attitude of aim to maim in such situations citing self defence. After all if the Yanks can flatten Iraq as a pre emptive measure to protect themselves then I don't see why I can't do teh same to scrotes who threaten me.
However my condolences to your missus bugmeister it is nasty when it happens.

I was absolutely terrified last night - believe me if one of the little toads had got out of the car I would not have thought twice about running the car at him. The worst bit about the whole event was the fact I didnt go chasing after him after the initial incident but the little git was waiting for me about a mile and a half up the road - that and the road back to where we live (A61 Harrogate Road/A659/A58 Wetherby Road) is mainly unlit - smack in the middle of the countryside so nowhere to escape to - thank God I know the roads around there really well. The police were helpful - they did say though that if they caught up with the owner of the car and it was him driving it was my word against his as there were three of them in the car and I was alone - yea right like I lead such a sad life I would feel the need to make up a story like this and waste police time and damage my car myself...dont think so but I bit my tongue....for once in my life!! I'm ok today just so b****y cross with the little swines.

Good to hear that you are ok. I hope that the fingerprints catch them out - thats if they actually do go for prints. I hate Road rage, I might use my lights or horn but as for agressive driving - thats something I only do when driving with my friends or down country lanes. I hope that your day goes ok and that noone gets on the wrong side of you.
Alas too late - two cerebrally challenged prospective students with major attitude problems in this morning - sent away and told to return when they had matured sufficiently to talk to me in a polite fashion....! Not normally a narky old bat - actually very good humoured old trout most of the time!!

On the insurance front you can claim against the owner of the car. Not nice for them I know but 'cos it is their property their insurance has to pay for the damage done to your car whilst it was stolen.
I know this as my girlfriends daughter had this happen to her. She'd only just passed her test and then had her car stolen and written off. She wasn't going to claim as the car was only worth about £200. However, she then got claimed against by the owners of the car that hers hit so she checked it with the Police and insurance company and was told she had to pay.
Unlucky for the poor sod who had their car stolen but you can get yours repaired at no cost.

If their car is damaged and is worth more than a few hundred quid then they probably are.

I think is only comes into play where they cannot find another insurer IE hit and run type with no witnesses. However, it still means you should claim and it shouldn't affect your policy in any way.
Also, the insurance industry manages a fund to pay for uninsured incidents. This may be able to help too.
