Right I'm intrested here.
What is your favoured party??
And are you to the left right middle etc.
I reckon I'm slightly right but not a lot.
Those of you who have read my post on the guns thread know im 18m and I personally think that the current goverment and its policies are to Rat Shit!
Its all badly thought out knee-jerk lefty bollox. the fact is that the working/middle class distinction is not the same as it was post war etc.
What do the political parties actually stand for?
Its all bland sort of half arsed bollox.
It's my personal belief that the current government is a tinsy bit bent, and as with 99.9% of politicians etc only intrested in making that bit more £££.
Ok the above is all IMHO and maby a tad harsh but I'm only try to put across how bloomin brassed off I am.
Ohh and to top it off recession.... Cant wait!! More misery doom and gloom

I think the traditional stance of left and right in politics has been replaced by "we'll be whatever we have to be, and say whatever we have to say, to get elected".
As such it's difficult to see how the present bunch of political opportunitists will get evicted. Today's chameleon politicians will morph or be morphed (some of them can't do it themselves so they need a hand) at the appropriate time when the spin doctors issue the instructions based on sophisticated market research.

I think large encompassing labels are far too simpistic for anyone here to go "I'm a lefty me" (They would also get a reasonable number of lentilist gags) People probably view their politics as complex and individual. Voting for any political party is a bit of a vague fit at the best of times.
Personally, I think we have a duty to others less fortunate, but at the same time EVERYONE must a sense of responsibility for their own actions and circumstances, regardless of how many excuses society gives them.

I'd say I dress more to the right than the left, but I'm sure I want pretty much the same things as most people, i.e. low crime, good NHS, good public services, a country that rewards you for your efforts. I just see one way of getting there as "better" than another.
However I do despair at the general quality of the politicians we have elected. They seem a bunch of greasy "what's in it for me" gits who will just say what they think we want to hear at the moment. Very few actually have a firmly held belief and actually deliver on what they say they will. I guess they simply don't think they are public servants anymore.
I have resigned myself to the fact that getting back to any kind of government that does what is right for the country as opposed to what is best for whoever is in power will be a very long term project.

I can't think of a single one.
Bermuda? One of the few remaining British colonies with a Governor General, but still independent of GB. It does have the minor advantage of being a tax haven, and relatively wealthy - anyone can make a political system work when you can afford to pay for all those things everyone wants, *without* having to heavily tax the same population.
Well, I'm probably most fundamentally a libertarian, and swing wildly between middle ground and right wing depending on my mood..

Interesting that no-one has yet mentioned in their list of deliverables that one of the things they want is democracy (or some form of elective control over the political classes), especially since people died to achieve that in this and most other countries, while many (most?) countries still don't even have that.

manek, I think you'll find that many people prefer to moan. How many moaners do you know that have not even tried writing one letter to their MP. I know plenty. At the same time they have all the answers to all the problems.
