Best Portable MP3 Player

I'm looking for something to carry around as many albums as possible, and have got bored or CD/MiniDiscs and carrying around the associated media.

Memory-based players seem pointless also, as even the largest (and expensive) media is 1GB, an in general I'd probably end up getting 256MB sticks/cars, which only fit on 3-4 albums at the quality I prefer.

I've started to investigate the Archos 9007D 20GB player, does anyone have one of these? Are they any good?

Or, are there any other solutions I've not thought off.

I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen, by Creative Labs, and I think it is great I looked at the Archos ones and did not like them.

Have a look at www.nomadworld.com or go to www.zdnet.com and search for mp3 players.

Oh yeah, the Zen is a 20gig pocket size unit, has great sound, is easy to use and so far has not let me down or caused me a problem.

Another vote from me for an iPod - I got one for Christmas, loaded it up with 150 albums and took it skiing. Didn't miss a beat and I had all my music at my fingertips. Next step is to wire it into the car stereos - who needs CD changers?

I'm an iPod fan, too. They're almost faultless. We've already got one for portable music, but since buying a set of JBL Creature speakers for it (very cool and highly recommended), we've decided to get a 20GB model and use it as a complete stereo for the office.

Quite pricey though.

Yet another vote for the Pod. Had mine for about 8 months now. Bought the Mac version and got some software for my PC. It has been faultless. Gets admiring glances from everyone and sounds good. The original ear buds are very good as well.

Well there's no denying the iPod is a snacky looking piece of kit.. loads of memory too if you buy the 20gig version.. however I ended up buying the top-of-the-range Sony CD Walkman which happens to be MP3 compatible. Works beautifully, and I get around 170 MP3's per CD-R. Plays normal CDs too obviously, and cost around £170, which is considerably less than the iPod. But then it's CD walkman sized.. ho hum.. swings.. roundabouts..
