Short answer - no.
Longer answer - it'd be better to work from the original source as you risk all sorts of horrible aliasing effects (maybe not quite the right term) as the MP3 filtering interacts with the ATRAC filtering that's already been applied to the audio data.
If compatability with portable players is important, stick with the MP3s, otherwise I'd give Ogg a go.
An excellent and genuinely free CD ripper that can also do .ogg is www.cdex.n3.net/ (needs extra codec for Ogg support - www.vorbis.com)
