Is it just me or is there any one else out there, who ,s blood is boiling at the fact that we are being taken for mugs,by those that see this country as the promised land,i.e(Asylum seekers).Day after day we are being subjected to news, from the media and the tabloids of the growing influx of asylum seekers, all faces smiling at the knowledge that they have landed in the promised land. And that this goverment will do what ever it can to put its resourses at their disposal. The only disposal that should be made to them is a boat back to france. But no,not this goverment. As long as you are not born of the British Isles, then every thing will be put at your disposal. It doesnt just stop with the goverment, but the police as well.In carrying out there duty earlier today, with a raid on a mosque in london, long connected with links to terroism. They took along withthem a muslim cleric to advise them on not entering sensitive parts of the mosque.(SORRY YOU CANT ENTER THIS ROOM THIS IS WHERE WE RECRUIT POTENTIAL TERROISTS,BUT THIS ROOM IS O.K TO ENTER.)Not only this but the police were seen at the local underground station dishing out leaflets to the local islamic community, explaining their actions.I mean come on,could you see this happening in any other country in the world.I think not.We are being laughed at and they know it.It would be nice to see some draconian laws introduced to stem this problem, but im afraid with this goverment it will never happen!

The greatest pity is that no where are the true facts and comparisons with other Countries easily available.

We are bombarded with half truths and assumptions and have little to base a proper opinion on.

The extent of the disinformation was demonstrated on a recent Question Time when Ken Livingstone stated that 1 in 5 of London's population are asylem seekers. Nobody had the figures to effectively challenge that totally unbelievable statement and debate petered out with a series of mutters and coughs. What I think he meant to say was that 1 in 5 of the UKs Asylum seekers at some time live in London, which is a bit different.

I can see nothing wrong with explaining to a local community why their Mosque has been raided, I would expect any civilized country to extend that sort of courtesy and see it as essential damage limitation. I have seen many examples of hand outs given to the local population in Northern Ireland to explain why a raid was taking place. We should extend every courtesy to Islam and, expect, in return, the same sort of courtesy from residents of the faith and from Islamic Countries.

There are serious deficiencies in the way this country is dealing with the Asylum issue, the joint action with France on Sangat was a start but only a start. Recent visits to Europe suggest that we are not the only country having difficulties and further afield Australia are making a right pigs ear of things.

Rather than getting excited about hype and stories made up by journos too idle or too pissed to research a proper report we should all be campaigning for a proper presentation of facts and figures and for Government and opposition to thrash out a humane way of dealing with the problem, should it be shown that there is one, which enables use to meet our international obligations in a way that that spreads the burden evenly and gives both seekers and hosts a fair deal. If that costs us more than the current charade then we should be prepared to cough up, if it saves us money so much the better.

I tend to avoid posting on political matters as any posting must be incomplete and cannot adequately deal with subjects which tend to be very emotive. I am moved to respond on this occasion as I feel that stripped of bluster and pub bravado most people in GB are honest decent and have compassion towards those less fortunate, if that makes me a wooley liberal (small L) then so be it. I hate seeing the nation split on half truths and the majority of the political set looking to score points rather than agree a way forward.

Let us all campaign for the facts and get this fiasco sorted out PDQ.

PS. Don't expect any serious postings from me for some time, I'm back to innane comments and anoracky things until some other matter raises sufficient passion.

Gnomesmith,

thats ok then if you say so. There are many on here that have personal experiences of the situation. I have been assaulted by Asylum seekers, my gf's friend sexually assaulted. Two friends mugged by them. My doctor asked me to move to another GP 3 months ago as I am an expensive patient (have crohns disease), even though I infact never go to the GP. The next month the practice took on 400 odd asylum seekers.

The car dealer I bought my first ever car from is doing very well as he is selling them cars paid for by the DSS (fact). As taxi drivers are refusing to take them as passengers.

I am an open minded sort but when these sort of things happen then its ridiculous to keep passing the situation off as exaguration. For some here its real and in their face.

It's not the asylum seekers, the economic migrants or others of their type that is the problem.

The problem is our politicians and the minority but vocal TRENDY woolly liberal leftie's who base policy on popularity and an idealism which cannot practically exist in the real world, and the gutter press. By this i mean all the press and TV 'News' reporting programmes who stoke up the fires, create impressions that didn't exist or further 'prove' those to be right.

If the powers that be create a situation that can be abused, then abused it will be someone somewhere.
Asylum seekers, bogus or not are just the easiest and most visable targets to vent our frustration at.

I agree with gnomesmith and swilly's basics.
Let's not adapt populist speeches/opinions without checking the facts first.
Remember: one will never publish statistics, which could harm the ideas of an own speech. Forget it, a politcian will never be honest.

Part of the problem is the British nationals who "employ" these people on a "cash in hand" basis, totally illegally of course, thereby encouraging them to stay on. If they only had state benefits to live off they'd high tail it out of here pronto.
How many of these "asylum seeker" taxi drivers have a council licence to operate?
How many hotel waiters have work permits?
The list is endless.

Although I said I wouldn't come back on this I'm making one exception.

I am very sorry that you and your friends have had negative experiences with people who you identified as asylum seekers, it happens, much in the same way as my daughter was assulted by an Austrian Neo Nazi, however it doesn't mean that all asylum seekers or Austrians are criminals.

Read my posting again and you will see that I am not accusing anybody of exaggeration merely saying lets get the true picture and take some properly thought through action rather than the hysteria fuelled knee jerk reaction of Messrs Blair and Duncan Smith.

One example of hype I can quote with authority concerned a local demonstration regarding the rehousing of asylum seekers in advance of local people on the housing list. The demonstration was organised by an ex council tennant who had been evicted for gross anti-social behavoir, 'neighbour from hell'. Over the past two years my local authority have, in fact, rehoused only two ex asylum families. The organisers motives were easily deduced.

I am merely asking that we establish the true facts and then take appropriate and decisive action rather than building up hatred against a group of people who are following the advice of Norman Tebbit and getting on their bikes.

Positively my last posting on this subject.
