Whether you believe that it is right or wrong for sending troops in the middle east you would have thought that the government could do it properly

Also have 30,000 ground troops and 150 armoured personel carriers. So, most of the boys will be on foot then eh!

So what's new - the Government always skimps on stockpiling ammo, kit and spares plus having all the right infrastrucutral kit (shelters, showers, laundries) to support a deployment. The scandal is that unlike in 1990-1 the Treasury is trying harder than ever to minimise the cost of this expedition to the point where troops' morale will be heavily affected - especially when they look across the road to the comparatively luxurious US camps in Kuwait for example. Tomorrow someone will realise that let alon boots and clothing - there's not enough ammo and we'll rush around europe buying it at a premium.
The politicians, bean-counters and pen-pushers never learn.
The only thing that they might have enough of is the 36,000 cans of beer aboard ark royal.

I do hope they have some other supply of beer lined up. 36,000 cans wont go far among (IIRC) 27,000 troops...

The Navy runs a quota system for beer of an allowance of three cans per man per day. The Ark Royal currently has 1,500 personel on board and sailed Saturday 11th Jan. By my sums they should have run out yesterday
