Sightseeing PH style in Italy

Suppose I have a free day in the mecca of Italian Automobiles, the Modena, Italy area. I'm looking for ideas on where I should go sightseeing, PH style.

I'm a DeTomaso fanatic, so every time I'm in the area I stop by the DeTomaso factory to see what they are up to and what is happening. Last time I went to Maranello and visited the Ferrari museum there. (I watched the Enzo circulate endlessly on their test track... as well as saw one pass through town! pix may be seen at http://briefcase.yahoo.com/gt5s_1985 for those interested) I've seen the collection of Maseratis accumulated by some cheese baron who bought the collection Alejandro DeTomaso was going to auction off when he sold Maserati.

What else is in the area that is worth a trip? I've been to the Lamborghini factory but never inside. (saw a Murcielago heading out for a test drive with "Prova" plates...) Is there anything to see there?

Fish and I are going to that area in June, via Belgium, Germany, Austria, we'll be stopping in Venice and Modena along with a few other places, so it will be interesting to know where else we can go.

I go there for business fairly often - last time I took a taxi to a grocery store, dragging my carry-on luggage behind me. I bought balsamico, grappa, wine, and parmesan cheese and put it all in directly in the suitcase at the checkout... I'm sure it got some strange looks by the x-ray guy at the airport on the way home!

I did this trip a few weeks ago and went to the Galleria Ferrari, they now have a new shop opposite the factory gates which opened in early '02. Shop is not bad, some good wind tunnel models in the windows and lots of carbon fibre bits to buy.

You might want to try the Lambourghini museum. You will have to book as it is private. I wanted to go bit it only re-opened again on the 7th Jan which was after we got back.

Maybe also try Ducati?

Partly answering my own question, but as pointed out you need a reservation to visit the Lambo museum at the factory. For the benefit of anyone else going (Mrs Fish) you can send an e-mail to [e-mail] to reserve. From experience, they won't let you in if your haven't previously reserved.

Mr and Mrs Fish, coming down near the swiss border??? Basel??? as we've almost been married by CarZee "alter ego" and all that, why don't you drop in on the way? perhaps I can give you some tips and we're only 7 hours from Zeebrugge, shorter if you're REALLY trying.

Always worth taking a small handbag and buying a new large case in Italy then!!!!
