Light at the end of the tunnel??
Discussion
Right guys (and especially gals) - i could do with some help. I have recently broken up with my girlfriend and am planning a final concerted effort to try to get back together with her.
I am planning a day of wineing and dining in London as a way of starting to show her I have realised and identified the problems in our relationship and have tackled my problems.
I am thinking something along the lines of London Eye, a nice meal and a musical at the moment but am open to suggestions especially with regard to a restaurant. My budget is fairly limited being a student but i can spend a reasonable amount as i consider it an investment i have to make, whether successful or not...
Thanks for any help in advance!

B0ll0cks - spend the money on a good night out - you'll pull some bird, sh@g her brains out and the next morning you'll have forgotten all about your ex.
I did that, it works every time
But IMHO london eye, meal, musical seems a bit (no offence plus ive done it before) cheesey and ordinary (i.e. everyones done it) my sugestion would be. get away from anythingclose to your surroundings a nice meal, countryside hotel (4 poster of course
) and a live comedian (ie craig charles, eddie izzard, billy connely) Remember what do ALL women ask for in a man? the ability to make them laugh. + you will both be in a good happy mood, relaxed and miles away from your worries. this approach always seems to do the trick 4 me.
hope that helps.
Pookie, thanks. I'll give that a bit of thought. I chose going to London and seeing a musical as its something that she would appreciate and something she knows I would normally be reluctant to do. I will investigate alternatives away from London though, as you say - it might be nicer.
ego, IMO if she's willing to go on this date with you, wherever it is, then she'sdefinitely interested in resuming your relationship - unless she's just after a good time at your expense, but you should know whether she is like that or not by now I'd have thought.
Has everyone been to the London Eye? I bloody haven't but if wanna take her, then go ahead, as long as she's not been before either.
However, don't think that one good weekend out/away will mask cracks as to why your relationship failed first time round. You could probably show her you have changed or whatever in other and better ways than taking her away for the weekend (unless of course, her complaint was that you never took her away for the weekend)

Am I alone in getting fed up with these pathetic "me and me bird split up" threads. Nothing personal, but,FFS, egomeister, get a life! If you've screwed up in your relationship, be a man, face the fact, learn from the experience, and move on. Jesus, Are you really so inept with women that you need to ask a bunch of petrolheads for advice?
You should have done the London Eye, Musical, country hotel, weekend in Paris, etc., BEFORE you ****ed up. BEFORE; Understand?.....

With respect nubbin,
off.
I am not asking for relationship advice, rather advice on things to do in London. I included details of what had happened so as people could understand what I wanted to achieve. It seems that this was not a good idea as everyone has taken it as asking for advice about how I deal with this situation. I have made a decision that I want to do all I can to sort things out and I will stick with that. I was only hoping that some of the members of this forum may have a better knowledge of London than me and could give me some pointers on places to investigate.

nubbin said: blah, blah, cr@p, blah blah, kick a body while it's down, blah.......
ahhh.....
This must be the legendary community spirit you are showing nubbin.
FFS there was no need for that response. The first line of the thread gave away what was coming. If you are fed up with reading them, then don't and press the back button.
Egomeister, is she a fairly "girlie" girl? (No disrespect intended!) By that, I mean does she like romantic things?
The reason I ask is because if she is and the budget is tight, I'd second (third? fourth? whatever...) the London Eye idea, but instead of spending all your cash on a London restaurant, why not buy her a necklace or something (nb. not a ring unless you want her to run away very fast!!) to show her how much you care, and then take her to feed the ducks in Regents Park? Plenty of opportunity for the two of you to have a good talk then without earwigging people at the next table, and there are little cafés about the place where you can have a cappuccino and just enjoy each other's company.
The downside being that if you put a foot wrong she might throw you in the lake.
Good luck anyway. Hope it all works out for the two of you.

London Eye is OK... better at night IMHO. Book online, as you get the tickets quicker (stick your card in and they pop out = 1 less queue).
Whole pod to yourself = mega bucks... £300-600 IIRC...
West End shows are quite good... I took Mrs Podie to the Lion King in the summer... not my cup of tea, but actually quite good. There's also some pretty good bars and resturants around Covent Garden... nice little Tapas place not far away... good value, nice place AND good food.
Only advice I can give, is do something that you think she'll enjoy, and something that you'll BOTH enjoy...

Ego
I have here a copy of hardens london resturants guide
best five british resturants under £40 per head are glasshouse - mesclun - the stepping stone - parade - the havelock tavern.
Personally i would say go for high tea at the ritz around 5:00pm - its about £25 quid
then on to the show and eat after so you can take your time
I personally like circus in soho - but its very trendy
if classic romantic is your thing the try Rules (v.pricey £50-£60 per head)
or langhans in mayfair is always a good bet.
if not look on the evening standard website they have many resturants reviewed
hope this helps
ps - take cabs between venues

To make up for my initial comment (although I do still stand by it) I have the following drivel to add:
1. Don't spend too much - it'll look as though you're trying to buy back her affection
2. If it's to be London, then try Covent Garden, though quite crowded is often pleasant - street entertainers, there's a string quartet busking in one of the areas until about 8pm and there's no end of bars, restaurants and cafes plus some nice shops and theatres are nearby - recommend My Fair Lady.
3. Never, ever, ever get caught eyeballing another woman in these circumstances - instant death, no bonus points and no cigar! Trust me - I've not just got a wandering eye but a wandering head - i think its hereditary!
4. Make sure you relax and enjoy yourself in the process.
If you ignore my initial advice, then good luck!

Just my two pence worth!
Now,...I have dumped quite a few men over the last few year (3 this year!) If a man wanted to get my attention a BIG extravagence wouldnt work. The Theatre is a nice idea but it will mean spending about 2 hours not saying anything to each other and therefore masking any issues the pair of you have.
Now, if it was summer i'd suggest secretly packing a picnic with all the trimmings, popping her in the car and finding a nice romantic spot....but it's not!
I think finding a nice romantic Inn or hotel in the country, a roaring log fire, big comfy chairs, bottle of champagne. Somewhere intimate.
On the other hand if you are brave enough to bear the weather and have a nice enough car, wrap up warm, get that picninc, drive somewhere like south downs (depands where you live) park up, admire the view/sky/stars, get some nice romantic music and some fluffy blankets and enjoy!!
If that dosnt work, I agree with the guys, go shag someone else! ...she will!
