i was just wondering if any PH's had any good suggestions for a new car.
I need a that has good performance 0-60 in less than 8 seconds. Good fuel consumption about 30mpg on average would be good and it needs to be big enough to get two adults in the back comfortably, a reasonable size boot would be preferable too and i don't want a big saloon ( i already have one).
I was thinking of a Seat leon Cupra Turbo. Any other ideas?

Havent driving it myself, but I have been in one. or a cupra R maybe, yer think its the second of the two. But nice interior, seemed powerful when he put the foot down up a hill. Nice looking car. Rear seats look big enough but didnt sit in them- front seats are good.
Assuming you mean *new* as in just registered, here is what I have come up with;
1) SEAT Leon Cupra R - I have recently been a passenger in one of these. Impressed!, 210bhp should keep you amused, within your budget and the 18" wheels look the part. At the moment depriciation is *really* minimal, check out autotrader, if you can actually find one!!
2) Honda Civic Type-R - Probably a little too kev-boy for you, but fits the performance and size criteria all for around 16k!
3) Alfa Romeo 147 - No expieriences, but they look great. Performance on the 2.0l is around 9sec on the 0-60 sprint. Think the 3.2l GTA is out later this year, but imagine that will be more than 20k. Only downfall is the aftersales care, its not great
4) BMW Compact 318ti - This is a bit of a 'nothing' car, looks ok, build quality will be no doubt good. Put it this way my sisters best friend has one, I think its a birds car. Expencive one too at 20k for the 318ti and 22k for the 325ti! It's BMW too so you'll probably need to pay extra for CD player etc...
4) Ford Focus RS - Yes a ford! But in my opinon one of the best looking hot hatches out there, probably the quickest of the lot and just within your budget. My only dislike is the interior, black leather with two huge blue 'racing' stripes through the entire interior
, but each to there own I guess. It *might* hold its value if its anything like past RS models.
5) VW Golf GTi 1.8T - There are both 150 and 180 bhp models available now, nice car that doesnt have any stereotypes attached to it. Shame the R32 is out of the question 2k outside budget and I would imagine quite juicy.
6) Mercedes C-Class Coupe - To match the performance and/or equipment level of any of the above. This car would be well outside your 20k budget! However a friend of mine does have one as a company car and its nice, big car feel, BOSE stereo sounds VERY good and very quiet on the motorway.
With your requirements and budget, for me it would be a close call betwean the Focus RS and the Cupra R. Let us know what you eventually decide on.

I'm looking mainly for new because i can get it cheap from Europe, but i don't mind if it's got a few K's on the clock.
I forgot to mention earlier that i'd like 4 doors; so ford focus RS is out of the question. I was also looking into the octavia RS as well. The cupra i'm looking at is not the Cupra R it's the normal Cupra with 180bhp.

Both my Leon Cupra and Leon Cupra R broke/break 30 mpg.
The R's average is 28mpg, much of it in town. If anything, the R gives slightly better mpg than my Cupra did with 34mpg on the motorway.

You're obviously not trying hard enough

With that budget and the need for 4-doors I would probably take a serious look at a Cupra R, 210bhp rather than 180bhp all well within your 20k budget and as I said before check out the depriciation on them, its minimal. If you can even find one for sale!
Octavia is ok, but imagine your more likely to have it welded to your side when you come to shift it...... Anyway thought you said you didnt want a large saloon!? Although no 7 series, its still fairly large and saloon like
I went to look at some cors on saturday.
I wasn't too keen on the Skoda; i thought it was too kev-boy and the dash was quite dull. I did like the Seat Leon and i'm think i'm going to go for a test-drive in saturday. i think the sill was a bit low getting into the car but i guess i'll see again.
I think the Cupra R will be too difficult to get hold of and i'm not sure if it's worth the extra 30bhp.

At the moment i drive a Saab 9-5 2.3lpt. I was considering chanigng my car because i drive into town everyday and it doesn't make much sense driving such a big car in town with one person in the car. Also my warranty has just recently expired and i have had to replace my gearbox and i am concerned that in the future some faults on the car will develop and they will be worth more than the car.
I don't want a city car becuase i still use my car occasionally to gp up the motorway to go to leeds and Birmingham (that's from london) so i need some good power. Also i need the space in the car becuase i have a family of 5. I can't really get 2 cars becuase it will muck up my tax situation. So you see my dilemma.
