After watching that Bloody Revved up thing again last night (when will i ever learn) Darren "the geezer" Manning did a piece on cruising, specifically that Police now have the power to impound any cars caught 'making a distrubance' or whatever.
Got me thinking, I'm not a 'cruiser' myself, nor am i realy into the 'freedom of expression' of the max power crew, but is impounding cars fair?
Is there anything wrong with people spending their hard earned (?) on their car? Surely this must be better than getting into drugs or whatever? Cars are things to be proud of, so is there anything wrong with merely showing them to people of like mind?
Any thoughts?

Would agree that its mostly harmless but it can get out of hand. There is a retail park new me that is swamped on fri/sat night with the Halfords Add-On Brigade. Thay generally destroy the place by the end of the night; glass, bear cans etc etc. I suppose its better than racing round the city centre like some of the halfwits do.
i went to a halfords to get some parts , pulled into there carpark and it was covered in tyre marks from bunouts handbrake turns etc , if i was the manager of the branch i would be a tad pissed off with that , proberly take to hiding in the bushes with the browning and shoot there fcuking wheels off 
Wasn't Halfords on Watchdog a few years ago because the 'mechanics' were 'trying out' the customers cars, like doing donuts and generally thrashing the cars they were meant to be fixing/servicing. I think they were found out when the customers who checked the milage on their cars before they went in for the service discovered their pride and joy had done about 60 or so miles!!!
As for the cruisin' guys, I am sure they love their cars and put a great deal of love and effort into them. As usual, it's the minority of nutters who spoil it.

Don't know about Halfords, but I had a car serviced about 10 years ago and saw it going sideways round a sharp bend about 5 miles from home when I'd popped into town for odds and ends. Spotty oik driving it was barely 17 at the time as I recall. I shot back to the garage and confronted the owner who swore blind he took it out and it had only done a few miles just to make sure it was ok Sir, (rather than the 15 or so it must have done to get to where it was). 15 minutes of stand up row later I couldn't prove it, so paid cash and reported him to the VAT people. Not only were they done for VAT infringement, but they had a nice sideline in recreational pharmaceuticals that oik was running. Oik was stupid enough to not remember he'd offered my brothers some in the pub a few nights before..
Cruising wise - as long as they don't upset the peace, let them max their cars and drive them sensibly. Donuts in the local supermarket at 2am is taking the piss though as its right in the middle of a housing area..

I would like to go to one of these 'cruises' just for my amusement.
I once pulled into my local Maccy D's to see a kevved up escort (cossie spoiler, with hubcaps). I could hear him talkin loudly about how the extra whale tail spoiler "gave him an extra 25mph on the top end". Someone needs a lesson in the effects of drag.....! Gimp.

I've went to a cruise last year (in Great Yarmouth), and I have to say that it really IS a minority of cruisers who do donuts, handbrake turns, etc. Most of the ones I talked to where proud of their car and knew it inside out and were generally just car enthusiasts with different taste to us PHers. What seems to happen though, is after the main cruise, a minority all go off together to find an empty car park to have their fun, so it seems to passers by like all the cruisers are doing it, but in reality it's just a small offshoot cruise.

Ok, fair comment.. I admit that I've a loud exhaust on my TVR, but I wouldn never go hairing through Southend with max revs doing donuts or whatever. No problem with a few of us driving through the place enjoying the car and not disturbing the peace or pissing off the locals. Everyone is a local of somewhere and I don't want that to happen here, nor would I do it myself anywhere else..
I imagine it's still much the same as it was when 'cruising' became a big thing in the UK back in the 1970s, with the owners of the really showy cars not taking any risks with their pride and joy and the bad driving being down to owners of shitheaps.
And yes, the police used to hassle the cruisers back then too.

It's starting to happen; the cruise I went to was organised in conjunction with the police - basicly plod closed off a wide road (could fit cars parked either side facing into the road, aswell as enough room for 2 cars to drive down the middle) and everyone parked up there. However, you do get the retards who drive off and find a car park of their own.
The police even have a representative on the messageboard where the cruises in the East of England are organised (link).
In Basildon I believe they are going to barricade one of the retail parks at night because boyracers are dropping oil on the car park then doing doghnuts.
The particular retail park had at least one car on fire one night and another retail park near me had 2 burnt out cars, one on its side.
Southend now barricade part of the seafront off on Saturday nights to stop the cruisers.
I was coming back from a mates, who lives in Shoeburyness one night, and got stuck for about an hour queueing along the seafront.It is one almightly cockup.
I avoid the seafront at all costs now, as I believe they are replacing the pier bridge and part of the cliffs have collapsed on to the road.
