Just a quick question for you IT bods out there - is there a virus that anyone knows of that erases all the sent/received items as well as the contacts and preferences (SMTP settings etc) in Outlook Express. For some reason at work when someone opened up OE all these had disappeared, everyone using it was adamant that nothing had been deleted or moved, and checking the wastebasket/trash confirmed that nothing had been deleted for the whole day - email had been working up until 4.30pm. I can't for the life of me figure out what has happened. Worst thing is that I usually back up all work and emails etc to DVD at the end of the month so have lost all messages for the last month!

BTW we use Macs only

Cheers

Hi,
Get sherlock do do a search for the 'IDENTITIES' folder, unless you already know where it is. Check that this folder is in the correct location and then check that there are all the necessary files in that folder. If you want further info email me.
It is highly unlikely to be a virus and I personally think that either someone has deliberately 'moved' the above folder or it has otherwise been relocated .... computers. Be careful not to trash anything and don't run Internet Repair just yet.

Many thanks dubaiguy,

Didn't have much time to investigate today, so will be going in tomorrow to try and sort out. I'll let you know if I get it sorted.

Found the old identities folder (all 1.67GB of it) in the Misc folder on the desktop with a new version (with nowt on it!) in the Outlook Express folder. Anyway all sorted now...phew.
