Fricking recruitment consultants

I know Ted does not like to name and shame, so I will not mention the waste of space company who have jerked me around for the past month with me chasing them after a role. First they forget to put me forward, then the guy I was dealing with leaves, then they say my CV is not technical enough, and ask for a summary, and then, when I chase them again, say "We were too late submitting the summary, and the client has filled the role".
FFS, do I have to do their job for them? Was it too much to ask them to be a little professional and perhaps earn their commission.

Since being made redundant last september I have been relying on these consultants to help me find work.
After speaking with a few they have told me that this is a time for them when they can make money as there are hundreds of people like me (marketing manager - sorry!) looking for work, so they can place them easily. However, you chase them (i phone every week to say hello) you p1ss them off ("if there was an opportunity Mr X we would of called you) you don't phone them, they forget about you!!!!
Thing is, I am desperate for work, I am trying to earn them mony. WHat do I do??
Edited to say - Just want to find a job!! Applyed for a job last week and they have already seen 100+ people and still are not happy!

Edited again to say - I am not dissing (to use the street "lingo") these people, but they must understand that a lot of people are relying on their help, and don't want to be ignored!

Inevitably in any industry there are a good a bad people working within it.
Agency Recruitment can be a fairly souless experience and the quality of work can leave a lot to be desired.
But on the other hand Recruiters do have access to a network of jobs and roles and comapnies that candidates never have -
Consider on my last assignement a front lage financial times advert - I rec'd well over 250 candidate cvs - clearly not everyone is suitable. Am I going to speak to the bottom 25% of candidates - Of course not.
Do I try to make a professional response to all of them - yes
will my client be satisified with my shortlist, after 20 odd interviews to shortlist I will usually present five candidates, I hope so
Quality does vary and I know there are some sharks in the profession - but we do have happy customers both clients and candidates - otherwise how do you think we stay in business.

I wasn't trying to say that there are some good people out there, or that they have a tough job in this market place, but the one in question was a waste of DNA. To be told "we were late in submitting the summary" given I had to chase them every day for a week before they said that they needed it, and then to make it sound like I was somehow to blame for them not getting their fingers out of their back sides long enough to do their job.
Yes, you are right, I am over reacting, but like many, the job scene is supposedly improving, but some of us out here are just desparate to get back to work.

Unfortunately recruitment is what I do for my sins, and it is tough for everyone involved at the mo.
I have made more placements in a day than I made in 2002.
1999 – 2001 I was in the top 3% of IT recruitment consultants worldwide.
Now things are difficult.

I've had varying dealings with recruitment consultants. However, it all depends on who you think they see as a client - it's the companies they place people with that pay them after all, so it's this end of the business that they'll take care of.
Whilst it's true that they supply screened candidates to the companies and so need to be good with 'us' too, there'll be another job hunter along in a day or so - not necessarily true for the companies they work with!

Well, I know that there are a few good recruitment consultants out there - the guys at my agency are good.
*BUT* the vast majority are bottom-feeding, souless scum suckers who don't understand or care about the roles they're trying to fill, about the clients they're supposed to be satisfying or about the lives and business they fcuk up when thjey're getting it wrong which they all too frequently do.
Utter Scum.
And before anyone comes back and says "yeah but when you need them..." Bollocks.. when you need them is when they let you down the most. When you don't need them is when you can't get rid of the fcukers..

I can say even though I have worked in recruitment for many years, right now; I hate it.

Well a recruiter currently has to put in similar amounts of work (50+ calls per day, taking another 50 for 3 months) before someone is placed and when the process is complete it just starts again and they still have not earned enough to pay the bills (and most won't this year).

One company in particular only seem to emply tarts, whose only use in life seems to whinge. Absolutly bloody useless.
And I'm not so sure about not earning a lot of money. I know for a fact that one area manager last year earned approx. £120K.

I am afraid you are talking shite.... The recruitment industry is worth over £2bn in the uk. How do these companies get repeat business if they conducting themselves solely to annoy people.
we are a service industry, mostly commision led and it is in our interest to place sucessfully as many peope as possible.
we frequently have to tell people the unpalatable truth about their career or there presentation or interview skills, but we have to do so in a constructive way.
I agree elements of the industry are a bit second hand car dealer - and recruitment agencies are not the answer to all areas of recruitment for companies
But your comments are dreadfully misguided
A well briefed and enthusiatic recruiter can provide excellent PR for any company and most clients pay only for sucess. Secondly a good headhunter who knows you personally and follows your career can be equally valuable. Ask any of my clients or candidates !
