VERY confused - Advert on T.V.

I've just seen the advert for Austin Powers - The Spy Who Shagged Me.
It's midnight so no children are up but what I really don't understand is why the voice over had the word shagged bleeped out but the whole word was still displayed on screen.
So are you not aloud to hear the word shagged at midnight but can read it.

It's actually called "ironic censorship" (it's talked about quite a bit in 'ad land' around Charlotte Street where we have an office), and is used to make you remember the advert.
You remember the advert, so it worked
C4's creative team are very good at this sort of thing IMHO.

can't see the problem with using this word at any time of the day, the film title could have easily been "The Spy Who Gave Me Rough Matted Hair", the location of the hair is not important IMO, but this title does not roll of the tongue as easily as the one used.

Thought it was Mike Mayers playing word games with a dance name but knowing how stuck up the British establishment are etc and using it for a film name.
Anyway, its a term used by US tv people to arrange cables. Hence a rather confused UK rigger being told to shag them cables by a US rigging boss.

interesting development on this theme, i tuned in a few minutes early to watch the rallying today and after the Carry On film had finished the announcer said something along the lines of: "for more comical laughs there is the austin powers film; the spy who shagged me on at 9..."
then they had the advert break, then showed a trailer for the film where they bleaped out the word "shagged" again...
this is all very silly.

Is it a nice view there or something? Can't imagine why alot of yoofs would go there apart from to admire the view.
