dunno if its already been discussed, but article in the Sunday times saying Italy has put up their speed limit on motorways to 150kph (93mph). They claim that scientists have shown people concentrate more and drive better when they are going quickly.

What the ****s wrong with England? We have a load of pseudo-socialist car haters in power, who don't spot the irony in overwriting other peoples bookings at the bloody Ivy and pissing away money on wars.

You've answered your own question there, mate.

England is full of little Englanders so ultimately the speed limit will NEVER be raised. Ever.
The thinkofthechildrenistas will never allow it. And there are far too many of them on councils/boards/pressure groups etc etc.
There is no easy solution to this.
(well there is but it ain't legal)

Having travelled on English motorways I say anyone who can get up to speed should be given a medal. (if they can find a clear stretch of road first that is)

I think italy's logic is that their accident rates couldn't get much worse, so they'll try anything!

Could you imagine us trying to follow their example.
It has brought a smile to my face as I imagine the shear anger in all those lentilists if someone suggested a max speed of 93 on our roads!

It would be nice to dream.......

What I don't understand is that we created alot of fast cars - TVR's, Astons, AC's to name a few, and we have a 70mph limit.

As said above if we upped the limit to 100mph on the motorways I think people would concentrate far more and it'd keep the traffic moving alot smoother.......most of the time.

I was just talking about this to a friend yesterday.
My experience was that if the traffic was light and the conditions were good then you could get away with about 90 to 95 mph on the motorways. This was back in the 80's though.
Has this changed?

rjo,

not if you have 1000 quids worth of detectors+jammers, and instead of watching the road, you concentrate on distant motorway bridges.
