BBC 2 "Iraq night" last night
Discussion
As there was little else on last night I spent most of the evening watching Newsnight, holidays in the axis of evil (in Iraq) and then a SH "biography".
I must admit it was very interesting, especially Holidays.... I was vaguely aware of the importance of Iraq in the historical sense, but I had no idea that the oldest city in the world was there, and that this was where writing originated.
It is appaling that this exists and yet has no tourist attraction whatsoever. Maybe another good thing that will happen after SH and his cronies fall from grace (be it sooner or later) is that these historical sites of MASSIVE significance may finally be opened up to the rest of the world.
Did anyone else get a chance to watch any of the above programmes - it was very interesting to see how "God-like" SH thinks he is?
Power corrupts etc etc
(apologies for the boring post)

Accepted, but the historical significance of Iraq astounds me (I guess I had never thought about it before) and it would be amazing to see, at some future date, Iraq opened up to tourists and interested parties to study what looks like truly amazing architecture and history.
(Ps in Holidays from the axis of evil I was lmao as the chap couldn't mention Saddam Husseins name at all due to his minder, so they decided to call him......TED!!!!)
Own up Ted - it's in our interests after all!
Saw it all; excellent viewing.
Terrible that these obviously warm, gentle people should be so fcuked by such an evil SOB.
But I get the distinct impression that come the first American tank to roll through Basra and up through the Shi'ite south, the Iraqi population just might think 'b*llocks to this' and roll out the welocome rug, forming a massive column behind Stormin' Norman's progeny...
After all, what was it? 61% of the population are Shi'ite, predominantly in the south where Saddam has systematically screwed them, versus 20%(?) Sunni (like Saddam himself), combined with all those Kurds in the north?
The only problem will be how he goes..?

It's the site of Babylon. Historically very important, especially in pre and biblical terms. It's the site of Kuroush/Cyrus the Great second major victory. Releasing the Jews held in captiviting, and helping to rebuild the temple.
Read about the towers of babylon, Nebuchadnezzar etc.etc. I sometimes wonder about the reasoning behind this war. Is it something biblical? Because Babylon has a lot of significance.
