This questions been bugging me for some time, and im still no closer to an answer.
Should we as motorists allow this speed camera cobblers to go unchallenged, or should we show our hand and take the fight to em?
Bear in mind im no good as an organiser, foot soldier yes.

I have a terrible feeling that the 'public' either don't care or haven't noticed. Until they all have got pints, or lost their licences, it will always be someone else who gets done. By the time people wake up it will be too late.
I work surrounded by people who are intelligent and capable, but although I know every one of them breaks speed limits they all say 'You won't get caught if you don't speed...'.
It's justthe same with surveilance and identity cards, although you can make an argument that they're not inherently bad (i'm not convinved myself, but...) given the technology available and the nature of (all) our politicians I think it is somewhat concerning, but no public outcry.
Still it's democaracy.

Gentlemen are we not missing the point?
It is not GATSO, SPECS etc that are the problem it is inappropriate speed limits.
If we are to campaign it should be to have sensible limits imposed along with flexible legislation that allows intelligent drivers to proceed without fear of arbitary penalisation.
If realistic speeds were allowed only idiots would be threatened with enforcement, attacking the instalation of cameras will not gain the sympathy of the man on the Clapham Omnibus and stands little chance of either popular support or success.
A cavalcade of sports and GT cars would alienate the non enthusiast, a Cavalcade of Cavaliers, Mondeos, Fiestas etc would be more credible.

Better be quick if you want to arrange a slow proscesion round parlimant square/trafalgare square etc otherwise we will have to pay £5 each for the privilige!
Apparently local councils and police forces are becoming reliant on the cash generated by cameras (according to an annonymous former speed camera advisor in Evo mag).
If we could arrange a month of going slow they might go bankrupt, but that would be a bit self defeating.

Although i agree with you Gnomesmith, i feel the point is to MAKE a point.
The limits are too low, but theres too many poxy speedcameras already, they just want more.

Since these cameras probably use CCD devices, pointing a laser, maybe even the handheld pointer devices, to them should disable the camera.
So, visit your local electronics store, put on your 'Saddam Hussein', 'Osama Bin Laden' or even 'Jacques Chirac' mask and have a go. All that would be seen or recorded is a bright flash! Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

You'd need a ridiculous powerful piece of kit to do anything. Projectile weapons and explosives are much easier.
Yes explosives an burning tyres are very atractive, i must admit.
But gatso dont yet use ccd cameras, they still use the old type camera and film methods.
So aiming a laser pointer at one of these wont do anything.
However, there is a laser you can build yourself, (its not amazingly hard) that puts out aprox 50 watts in the infra red band.
Thats enough to burn you seriously.
I reckon if that was aimed at a gatsos lens itd fry the shutter mechanism and burn whatever was behind it, remember itd get concentrated by the lens. Also the insides of these cameras are matt black so inproving absorbtion of the heat.
Do the same to a truvelo and yes, itd die the death too, or specs...or cc cameras....all easily destroyed using this method.
BTW, an ordinary laser pointer will overload a specs cam quite easily and if prolonged can damage the picture elements.
