Result Alinghi won, NZ DNF, various problems including shipping too much water, blown out jib and broken boom. Back to the drawing board I think. If I was a betting man my money would be on Alinghi.

Yep, Alinghi won the second race as well, by 7 seconds, after recovering from a 23 second deficit.

Well I am a truly loyal Kiwi, so go Dean Barker and team. The boats are well matched as per the crew, so its going to be an interesting next couple of days. There is so much more racing to go, so who knows where the cup will end up.

Reading this thread after two races I am reminded of the joke relating to the old bull and the young bull looking at the cows in the field!!!!

I suspect there is a little bit of gray hair'd wisdom in the kiwi camp and that they are some what wiser after two races!

Besides Switzerland is a miserable place for sea racing!

No Maz - all the grey hairs went to Alinghi, the young bulls are sailing NZL-82.

Sorry again Maz. The A/C deed of gift requires that the challenging entry has to represent a country with a sea-board. AFAIK Switzerland lacks this requirement(global warming notwithstanding) so the Swiss team have done a deal with Monaco which becomes a province of Switzerland for the purposes of satisfying the rules.

Cheers

Graham

Gray hair matey is a metephor (mind you for quite a few million I could be persuaded to bog off to some land locked chocolate glacier!) Perhaps I should have worded more simply ...... the fat lady hasn't sung just yet (at least not yet after two races!!)

Just thought you might be interested in this - probably just scare-mongering, but theses days you can never be too sure.

"WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - In terror threats sent to the U.S., Australian and British embassies here, a group calling itself ``September 11'' claimed it had 55 pounds of cyanide it will use against the America's Cup yacht race and U.S. interests if Iraq is attacked, police said Thursday"

pretty poor effort in coverage over here in Oz Izza. The only parts of the races we saw were the mast breaking in the fourth race....AND THAT WAS ALL WE SAW!!

But seeing the outcome I'm glad I didn't see anymore

What I don't understand is anything breaking on a Kiwi boat, you guys normally build a bullet-proof boat

BTW if Alan Bond hadn't have been such a show off he could have out-psyched the Yanks in the next series but never thought that far ahead

day of mourning coming up ??????
