Verified Email?? What's this about then

Just logged into a forum toleave a message and it asked me to verify my email? may I ask Why?

It's to stop people using fake email addresses in their profiles i think.

I think this is just something so that the email each person gives can be verified as being a real email address, which makes sense with such an open and public forum which also allows users to communicate via email.

I verified mine a couple of months back and nothing more serious than a "please reply to this email" message has happened.
