I remember a kart (go-kart) at the 1965 Blackbushe Dragfest fitted with two rocket motors. The duration of rocket burn was controlled by the quantity of fuel (hydrogen peroxide).
One motor ignited at the start but the second didn't chime in until later, kart was last seen accellerating into the Surrey countryside way beyond the quarter markers.
You could buy a version of the rocket that bolted into a VW transmission to act as a booster for the unsuspecting Beetle.
