Pop-Up Blocking
Discussion
the best pop up stopper i know is one, surprisingly enough called 'pop up stopper' by panicware and available from http://download.com.com/3000-2366-10186560.html?tag=lst-0-3. bear in mind though that if youve got gator or any other kind of spyware on your system this could be the problem so id recommend getting adaware http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10186632.html?tag=lst-0-1 to clean your system.

Not sure about preventing the popups as I suffer form the same problem, but I've found all osrts of interesting things lurking when I ran ad-aware on my PC. Free version available from www.lavasoft.nu/index.html
Love to know how come gator buries itself in my registry every time I go online. Have a virus checker and firewall, but it still gets in there..

Ah ha!
Right thats a messenger broadcast popup.
You can do a few things here:
If you are not connected to a network go into Control Panel>Services and double click the Messenger service and stop it and change the startup type to disabled.
Other than that you can use your firewall (if you have one) to block all NetBIOS and UDP inbound traffic, that will sort it as well.
The basic premise is that these messages are broadcast accross a range of IP addresses, if when they arrive at your IP address they hit the messenger service the messenger service will display what its told.
Matt.

If so, ditch it and get Kazaalite...
Matt.
Nope.. I download the occasional mp3 and video but avoid sites that have resulted in catching a virus, (Norton is pretty good at picking them up and I keep it up to date)..
No idea how it keeps reemerging; as I said I've the usual security on the PC..
