Motor for 2-3k?

Handing the company motor back soon so need a fairly cheap motor until I get settled into new job. Suggestions please.

Not Pug 1.9 or Clio - too small
No Fords at all (no offence!).
Only decent one I can think of for reliability, reasonable space and fun is Golf Mk2 16v.

how about a nissan 200sx? you could get one of the new shaped ones for that and theyre very underrated. good setup, loads of creature comforts, rwd, turbo.... what more do you need?
