Any nice areas in the East Coast of Scotland?

Moving job and they're offering a relocation package to within a 25 mile radius of Edinburgh.
Ideally a 3/4 bed detached but a 3 bed semi in a really nice area would do. Wife needs to commute to Glasgow (2 nights on at the Royal). Got 2 kids so decent schooling is required. Access to good driving roads a must.
Any suggestions?

) I moved out of Edinburgh to Falkirk when I got married as my wife works in Glasgow - its 30 minutes by train from Edinburgh and 20 minutes from Glasgow (every 15 minutes). Now, I'm not recommending Falkirk as a particularly nice place...its got all the amenities you could ever need, but its not considered a "nice" town - I dont mean it rough either, its just a very blue collar kind of town. £100 - £150K wont but much in Linlithgow (you could try livingstone, but public transport to Glasgow is not as good), whereas in Falkirk and the surrounding area, it will get you a nice 4 bed detached with double garage, or a spacious upper conversion in a traditional house.
I stay in a village near Peebles, in the Scottish Borders. It is 20 mins to the Edinburgh bypass, under an hour to Glasgow. We are in the middle of beautiful countryside, with masses of great driving roads in all directions. Peebles is a lovely little market town and the prices, while heading up, are not near Edinburgh levels. If it is of consequence, Peebles High School is also extremely good, and provides a standard of education that in Edinburgh you would have to pay for.
Houses in the area can be found on espc and also www.bspcbricks.co.uk. The main player on the Estate Agent front in this area is www.johnsale.co.uk .

Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick are all cheaper a bit further out but they have improved the roads, have lovely village feels to them and are in the country. The views at north berwick are lovlely looking out to see.
Nearer the city Joppa used to be nice right down by the beach and the sea.
There is also Dalgetty bay across the forth road bridge again beside the sea, my brother lives there and loves it.
Its a great place.

It all depends where in Edinburgh your office will be. Commuting in from any particular direction can be hell, without having to pass through the city centre to get to work.
East Lothian, East of Tranent, towards Haddington and beyond, is getting pretty pricey. The extension to the A1 dual carriageway from Haddington to Spott will only put prices up. South of Edinburgh, Penicuik, West Linton, Peebles are all good places, with the proviso that the further away you go, the better it gets.
To the West, you have East and West Calder, Bathgate, Linlithgow, Falkirk, Stirling, Dunblane. Look on a map, check out the roads. The Calder road is a nightmare during rush hour. In fact the entire city bypass is a nightmare. Imagine the M25 with just two lanes.
As others have said, it depends on your budget, and precisely what you want. I lived outside Dunblane for seven years, but have spent most of my life either in Edinburgh or in East Lothian, in Athelstaneford and Gifford, where I live now. Gifford was recently voted the most desireable village to live in Scotland, and of course the prices took a bit of a jump. North Berwick High School is at the top of the league table. All in all, East Lothian is quieter, prettier, and more expensive, especially in rural areas.
If (and I say IF) you are into golf, East Lothian is crawling with courses. In fact, the whole Lothian area has over 40 golf courses, nearly all open to public access.

Thanks guys I'll start to have a look around these areas over the next couple of weeks. I've a mate who lives in East Calder but I'm not sure about West Calder. I've driven through it once or twice and thought it looked a bit rough? However I see they're doing some new build there and the houses look nice.
I live in sunny Barrhead at the moment (moved there from Helensburgh - BIG mistake) so I'm not too keen on blue collar places at the moment (Barrhead is more unwashed, dirty, minging collar though!).
Apologies to anyone who lives in Barrhead , but when you see junkies dying in childrens playparks and the UDA having gun fights outside the kids indoor adventure playground you really do wonder if it's the place to bring your kids up.

100-150K will get you a 4 bed, detached, new 'Barratt' house in somewhere like Dunfermline, which is growing in popularity with families unable to afford Edinburgh prices. Only problem is that you have to commute across the Forth Bridge every day, which can be a real pain in the a**!
It will also get you a 3/4 bed detached house in parts of West Lothian. Livingston is OK but soulless; Broxburn (where I grew up) and Bathgate are a bit like Falkirk: not nasty but blue collar towns (although this is slowly changing).
I'd agree with an earlier post and say that one of the Borders towns is probably your best best. Public transport links are fairly non-existant, but this is the area I would aim if I had a family to concern myself with....!
