Mechanical bush press

I'm about to change the front wishbone bushes on my car (vx carlton) and have been told I need a mechanical bush press to push the bushes into the wishbones. I did the same job on the mondeo last year and was told the same thing, in that instance the bushes were quite big and had a metal surround so not the sort of thing you could push in with a socket and vice. For the mondeo I just bought the whole wishbone but as this is getting to be something of a habit and I'm soon to be rebushing the tvr I'm wondering what is a mechanical bush press, how big are they (is it a small portable thing or more of an installation type thing) and how much are they?

Any ideas?

Usually consists of a very large/long bolt that passes thru the hole in the bush, has a distance piece to push against.
I went out and bought a hydraulic press(15tonne) to do these kinds of jobs.
Can handle front hub bearings, bushes and gears now.
Hell i even stripped out my GT4 gearbox completely and used the press to remove the gears and refit em.
My advice, if you can find/afford the tools to do the job, get them. Itll save alot of trouble later on.
Or you could just hire them?

Try www.machinemart.co.uk they have a selection of bench/floor presses for just that purpose.

Bush/arbor/mandrel (same thing) press can be found here.

However, the price will put you off!

I would echo the suggestion of buying a cheap hydraulic press. Much more versatile.
