Don't forget the locking pins!!!

Travelling along the M27 today doing about 85 err, I mean 70mph I see loads of dust & debris flying along the hard shoulder about 600yds ahead. (Shame the dick in the Merc didn't and went bungling along on his mary way) As I got closer it became obvious that the GT40 replica sat on the hard shoulder had lost the rear body section, which luckily had found its own way on to the hard shoulder, still spinning but safe!

I had to stop, couldn't see a fellow enthusiast left stranded now could I?

Turns out he had just come out of the services having had a hose problem. Looked like he'd forgotten to put the locking pins through the body retainers. A small section remained attached to the car, but the main part was sitting about 100yds behind. I helped him lift it back on to the car as one of the rear brackets was still in one piece, once closed it sat perfectly back over the retainers and a ‘bungee strap’ acted as safety pins. The other small bit we removed and I put it in the boot of my car and offered to follow him back to his place. We got about 2 miles up the road when the hose went again and he coaxed the car into Rownhams services. Here it was decided that a recovery truck would be the best option so I left him to it.

I hope he got back OK! Not sure what the repair was going to cost though. The rear section was not repairable and the car would require a full re-spray to get any kind of colour match.
