Four hours yesterday:
Wash,Rinse,Wash with Zymol, AutoGlym intensive tar remover, rinse, Zymol wax. Porsche done.
Wash, Rinse, Wash with Zymol, Rinse, Zymol Wax, Zymol Wax, Renovo Hood polish (twice - inside and out). TVR done.
I am absolutely knackered today.
But when I walked into the garage this morning I got an unusual reward as well as two gleaming cars: A fantastic smell of banana-coconut-chocolate!

Despite being unbelievably fastidious last week (3 washes), I have come to the conclusion that filth is an unavoidable condition of British motoring.
There is simply so much sh1t on our roads and the weather so inclement that I have currently adopted, as of this Sunday gone, a new philosophy; namely that the dirtier the car, the better.
Frankly, although my beetle is black, it looks white.
I think I've finally thrown the zymol towel in, as it were!

You did well Don, I bought a Zymol starter pack last week and have put my name down for the evening class in understanding the instructions!!
I have a problem in that my car is larger than a 50cm square and thats the only size it tells you how to clean
Seriously tho if anyone can put things in words of two sylabuls I would be most grateful.

Indeed, Mrs Fish. I drank half a bottle of Lastrada Pinot Noir from the Marlbourough vineyards in NZ - which was very fine. I then proceeded at enjoy a half bottle of Virtu Noble Semillon especially imported from NZ by myself - its quite wonderful.
I then enjoyed a Vodka to cleanse the palate..and crashed out...slept over nine hours and woke up this morning feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead!
No word of a lie. I don't have a liver. I have an Alcohol Processing Unit.

I read (I think one of your) posts on the virtues of zymol and on the strength of that popped off to Halfords for a couple of bottles.
Now i'm an Autoglym fan and have pretty much everything they make but I thought i'd give Zymol a go on the grounds that if they can charge £1,000 for a tub then someone there must know what they're doing!
Brilliant stuff. My black Boxster had it's second waxing this month. Did two coats this time. The car is that glossy it looks wet! Certainly superior to Autoglym super resin IMO. The only snags with it are;
1. You need a relatively dry atmosphere (I live in Yorkshire - beautiful but perpetually wet!) as I have found the stuff doesn't buff off well and can be streaky if it gets damp.
2. I get distracted driving by looking at the reflections of passing lights on the wings!

Dunno if it was me, DRG. But I do reckon its top stuff. Personally I will use whichever product from whomever to clean the car - I don't bother with brand loyalty. But the Zymol shampoo and the Zymol wax are really good.

Not that I have used it but it has been said on here many times that the stuff Halfords sell in abottle for £10 is not the same as the wax Zymol sell for £50 a tub on their web site. Rich...

i found the Halfords stuff worked wonders on my old red 205 GTI, but when i tried the same on my black Golf GTI, it just left a bronzing effect and looked cack.
I should pick up a red Corrado at the weekend, so ill see if i can find the Zymol
Oh, and its NOT the same stuff as 'proper' Zymol - its made under license, by Turtle Wax!
if you can find some Simoniz Original Wax (it comes in a creamy coloured tin), its about £6 and its absolutely fan-bleedin-tastic. Its hard work, but it really is worth it - covers up minor scratches in the lacquer, and gives the car a really deep shine.

Tell me - was that the poor mans Zymol from Halfords you used (blue in a bottle). Or the stuff from their website?
Yes I know it's not the same as the website products, but do you really need anything shinier than this? Its a 4 year old car that lives outside as well though it does get waxed a lot!

Poor man's stuff, Greg. I am considering one of the little pots as an experiement. But considering the depth of shine I was able to achieve with the Halford's stuff...I'm not too worried.
The important thing (IMO) is to get a few layers on. Makes the muck slip off so washing the damn thing is quicker and easier.
Cleaned the pig yesterday, following it's bathing in an inordinate quantity of muck and salt, to be taken aback by a wee graze to it's nearside front flank.
Oh dear, thought I...so thence to the Zymol wax goo. A modest dab of the brown sludge, let it haze and then gentle buffing with the microwipe towelling and presto!
Quite incredible stuff, it really is. Indeed, I have a funny feeling this may well have inspired my second 8 hour Zymol session of the last twelve months.
Such a shame that all that elbow grease will be for naught within several minutes of travel on the dirt tracks which we call roads.

It is official Zymol, and Halfords are selling a full range of their products. It's a liquid wax, and it does seem quite good, though I'm not sure how good it'll be for scratches. I thought it might save you a bit of elbow grease, between applications of proper wax, to "top-up" the shine.
The piccy in my profile was taken at Cusworth Hall, near Doncaster - an old childhood haunt of mine. If you ever go past Doncaster on the A1, you can see it off to the right as you head north, a nice but smallish stately home at the top of a great sledging hill!
