Palm Tungsten T

Does anyone have any impressions of this device? I have an opportunity to buy one for £225 through my company. I'm looking for a PDA and was thinking of a Sony Clie NR 570 which comes with a tiddly keyboard.

Opinions? Comments?

I have one, not used any of the nice bluetooth comms, since I have an old phone, but it is compact, light, seems to have a good battery life, and does exactly what it says on the tin.

I like the look of the Clies, but I have total and utter gadget lust over the Tungsten. If you are set on a keyboard, the wireless Tungsten W comes out soon(ish).

Hi I know you are looking at palms but for that sort of money have you considered a pocket PC don’t flame me for mentioning them in palm area.

I don’t know if you have seen or used on but for what I use mine for I think a pocket pc is better suited to my needs

For the thick amongst us - me - what's the difference between a "palm" and a "pocket pc" then?

A pocket pc has a MS OS typically more memory and a colour screen can play mp3’s and videos and does all the stuff a palm does.

I use mine with a 128 CF to play mp3s in car or about town
As lap top replacement with a key board (in my option it is a viable alterative)
With a IBM external hard disk or micro drive with a couple of Divx films (aproximatly DVD quality in about 700mb)
And will do all the stuff a palm does

Unless I am at the pub you will rely find me with out my pocket pc mine is an old model and a brick by the size of the newer models but it is a Casio E-115 if you want to check it out

When it cones down to it most pocket pc are slightly bigger than palms but they are also faster and have more features. It comes done to what you want to do with it really but for the amount you are looking to spend I would have a look at a pocket pc.

I've just been looking at this - for all intents and purposes the compaq rival is the better of the two, but i cant remember its name.

If littlegearl reads this i have recorded a Palm vs Compaq website in my favorites and he may be able to post the link, otherwise i will ask him later as i have to ring him anyway!!

Basically although the Palm looks the dogs, the compaq does offer loads more services.... Since i did this search though, which was may be end of january - early feb, the palm has come down more in price than the compaq so in this instance may represent the better deal (it isn't that far behind after all)

edited to say that to be honest i thought the sony was shite and not nearly as good as the Palm or compaq - even if you just look at the number of big computer words vs price both the palm and compaq whop butt!!

Slightly off topic but has abuyone used a handspring Treo ( a palm with a mini kybd and a 1800/900 mobile phone...


im considering trading th wmoby and my m505 for one


Also are palm doing anything down this route...



palm V pocket pc

the palm was designed with a specific functionality set and is optomised for this and will do most other things to...

the pocket pc was built to run the o/s rather than tuned for particular apps, but does give a familiar windows feel

I've had an Ipaq (Compaq Pocket PC), a Clie, and currently have the Tungsten.
For me, the Clie and the Tungsten are better by miles.
Main things I have against Pocket PC's are 1) battery life compared to Palm OS devices is very poor 2) frquent crashes/lockups of the OS 3) like all things Microsoft, the whole things are bloated, over-complicated animals.

Between the Clie and the Tungsten I would choose the Tungsten, it's a beaut

I think it is manly a mater of preference as to weather you prefer a palm or pocket pc

Ther are lots of problems with the pocket pc but in my opinion there are also problems with the palm but if I was you and was going to lay out on one of theas things I would want to try a couple of other devices first.

Also don’t fall in to the trap of the only pocket pc are made by Compaq there are lots of other devises out there dive them a go and see what you think.
