South of Taunton there's some nice villages. I'm travelling down to Staple Fitzpaine this afternoon. If you see a red Griff on the M4 hard should please stop and feed me.

If you can find a job and a decent house within budget (getting difficult due to second home owners) then I would have thought anywhere in the SW is a great place to live.

I grew up in Weymouth, and although I could wait to move away at 18, I would move back sharpish if I could get a decent job in Dorset.

Steer well clear of Calne, Trowbridge and Melksham. Unless you like your sister a little bit too much, in which case you'd fit right in!

M@H Cornwall is very attractive but is a bit further West than I intended. Looking for a decent market town with good school or is this a dream.?

Wells in Somerset does it for me

Good local shops, schools, etc, but without being over busy. Rush-hour ??? Not here!
Great local roads (Cheddar Gorge, etc). Quantocks and Exmoor about an hour away.

Everybody thinks it's in the sticks but I can be in the center of Bath for expensive shopping in 45 mins and Bristol center takes about the same.

Only real gripes are that it's equidistant from any motorway and housing is a tad expensive by South West standards.

Somebody moved the border to exclude Bournemouth from civilisation in 1974! I am sure it was to do with anywhere further west being in Grockle*-land

(*For those who have never ventured south of the river Grockle = "a numptie on holiday, having left any remnant of brain cell at home" - often seen pulling a caravan.)

Kingsbridge and Ivybridge are both decent towns and have good schools and are in a nice bit of Devon.. not too far from the Sea, the South Hams District is a nice area generally. Totnes.. same as, school wise its near Kingsbridge..

Barnstaple.. other side of Devon, but a nice big Market town, but friendly with it.. not far from Croyde Bay. Newton Abbot.. err.. big Market Town, complete with race course and on the Main train Line.

Cheers
Matt.

No Probs.. My stepmum teaches in Kingsbridge, having taught in Ivybridge before, and they live in Salcombe so I know the area a little..

Cheers,
Matt.

Yup, Tiverton is good.. Though where I come from its regarded as foreign, being the wrong side of the Tamar..
