Avignon/Carcasonne/Perpignon?

Going to the SOF next week & fancy taking in these places. Any recommendations for places to stay/see/eat & drink 
?
Thinking about coming back via Biaritz & Bordeaux so ditto for them.
I've 'just happened to notice' that the Geneva motor show is on then as well,what a strange coincidence

, might have to pop in on the way down! Plenty of eating houses in Carcassonne (I assume you mean the 'old town'); trouble is it's well-touristy and maybe at this time of year a lot of them won't be open.
You'll also be in the region of Cognac: if you're into brandy you might take in a distillery tour or two. Or three or four...

Oh yes, Carcasonne - fond memories!
I remember years ago, a couple of reprobates and myself partaking of 'Le Grand Tour' and crashing out in this wonderful place.
Couldn't get a room or three at any inns on arrival so had to make do with a night's kip in the car, in this case, the simply unforgiveably crap Jag XJS.
One of the chaps was 6'4" and attempted multiple contortions in the back before bailing out and crashing on the floor in the parking bay beside said big cat.
The following morning was quite surreal, as three somewhat jaded muskateers slipped into the old town's inner sanctum, whilst an army of cleaners and maintenance bods went about their duities.
I remember it was about 6AM and marvelling at the views from the ramparts and the fabulous architecture. And how superb a return to feudalism could be.

We were on holiday round that area a couple of years ago when the petrol strikes were on. Bit of a PITA really cos we were on a driving holiday!
Out of the two weeks though we got about 8 days worth of driving so it was quite cool. Hire car was a bag though but became entertaining when Judas rallyed it through the big park in the centre of France!
Few things about where we went:
Carcasonne is madly touristy but the walled city is gorgeous. Head south into the Pyrenees for some spectacular scenery, cracking twisty roads and, if you are into that kind of thing, loads of history and castles (vast quantities perched precariously on mountains).
Check out the local Minervois wine and a sparkling champagne type wine called Blanquette de Limoux (it is lovely). Also try the local dish called cassoulet (casserole of beans and sausage and duck) it is very tasty.
We stayed at a B&B at a vineyard in Laure Minervois, rooms were very comfy, food and drink (all home made/grown) was stunning.
Prices were unbelievably cheap for the B&B and the evening meal (£23/night for double room and breakfast and £9 for 4 course meal including wine p/p) and it was 20 mins drive from Carcasonne. Owners don't speak English and we don't speak French but we had a superb time with them. Roger speaks Occitan (Old school french language - pre english invasion) and knows loads of history about the area. Mail me if you want their details.
