to be honest he probably didn't care, it was an onion...
also, i was surprised it wasn't 1minute of "info" and 59 minutes of boy racers handbraking, donutting, burnouting in a car park, then coming up with really lame excuses for it all...
it seemed quite well balanced and not saying "SPEED IS BAD - YOU WILL DIE IF YOU SPEED AND KILL EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD WITH YOU (WHEN YOU SPEED)"
Yes, there was a huge segue from speedsters and cars(inappropriate t*ssers and all) to 'oh yes, and speeding is bad for you, it kills people', a staged shot of a kid running across a zebra crossing. The join between the documentary bit about muscle cars and people doing daft things and the last 10 minutes was real cut 'n' paste stuff.
The conclusion wasn't supported by the evidence, basically. Clumsy, lazy and thoughtless programme-making. Note of fact: the BBC didn't make it.

That explains why the "motoring psychologist" was allowed to rubbish speed limiters.
REMEMBER THAT ONE, FOLKS, it might be useful.
Why does "Professor" David Begg get so much air time?
Blair's transport advisor, sponsored by the bus industry, Edinburgh Councillor one minute, professor the next minute.
How did that happen, then?............

I was suprised that the muscle-maniac in the speed-limited car together with the Psychologist's views on how boredom sets in etc and actually increases the chance of accident was inlcuded.
I would have thought the BBC Blairs Broadcasting Company would have digitally altered his views.

I for one thought it was well tedious.
And did you notice; as they were going on about how muscle cars were death traps none of the archive footage actually had any muscle cars in it. They were all mangled up model T Fords or something.
Nuff repec to Kev for the sauteed onion though.....innnit!!

I suppose I should have known better.
What I had seen advertised as a programme investigating what was broadly referred to as the human 'need for speed.'
I was expecting a dissertation of the pysche behind man's undoubted, age old quest thereabouts, from the first time an ape creature stood up and ran, through the ages of horseback and horsdrawn conveyance, perhaps pausing for a few moments to contemplate eighteenth century carriage comfort and suspension design; then proceeding to briefly consider the development in maritme propulsion - the row {my favoured method of occupation for the peasants}, sail, steam and so on; taking in man's notion and realisation of flight and hinting at space travel...before settling down to a nice focus on that which most can identify with, the maligned contraption of Beelzebub itself, the automobile.
And therein, the Gottleib Benz prototype from 1888 could have formed the basis for a rendezvous with Uncle Henry's mass production techniques and how this liberated the common man from parochial constraints, allowing a degree of petrol headed satiation without too much analytical compromise, as the programme could have studied Mr.Shelby's serpentine roller coaster, the awesome GT40 and the on-going establishment of the contemporary European racer brands via F1 and GT racing and the technologies in rallying which ultimately afforded Mr.Average an RS Mexico in 1973, a 'Cosseh' in the late 80s and a Scooby Doo latterly - all wrapped up in gratuitous comparitive crotch shots of coiled Enzoic creations and Lambonic lust...
Instead, the weakest of weak propogandist diatribe, further convincing surely, the most even handed, liberal herbivore that nowadays, truly sensible debate within this realm seems quite impossible.
But just in case you were too stoopid to notice, our chimp-like narrator couldn't resist the final mantric chant of the arse wipes' cause celebre - unfortunately, the one that the idiots who always seem to produce our frustratingly asinine legislation - take as gospel: "SPEED KILLS."
The actual content of the programme was too coronary inducing to contemplate.
One last thing...the licence fee is going up this year.
Scum.

I feel sorry for poor old Damon Hill. I'm sure he was quoted out of context.
All he said was "I speed. I'll put my hand up for that. But other people do"
He couldn't have been that limp wristed. Could he?
The rest of it was typical Beeb - a load of old Lefty, mantra chanting cobblers. I wish I'd watched a film instead.

And why oh why oh why did they put that stupid cow Tara Pumpkin Tossers-Son on there. Makes me want to put my foot through the TV screen every time I see her on the box.
Can anyone tell me what she's actually done of any note to justify her "celebrity" status other than turn up at any society dou where there happens to be a paperrazzi (sp?) pi**ed and with her b**bs falling out of her top.
