Are MV Bikes thatgood

Excuse my ignorance, I have no clue about bikes.

My teamleader has an MV Agusta F4 thingy, currently worth about 12k which he bough from new a few years ago and hardly ever uses. He claims that this is the bike everyone wants. All Ducatti/R6 etc owners would sell their love spuds for one. Now being neieve I believed him for a while. However, my misses has recently experesed an interest in getting a bike and has bought a load of Bike mags. Whilst browsing through the pages, I notice the cost of a new MV is very close to a Ducatti and the top Japanese bikes. So my question is. Is he talking crap, if they are that good why dont you ever see anyone the road. Has it gone to his head a bit. Your thoughts would be very welcome on this subject so I will know better. Cheers.

They look good, were made in fairly limited numbers, and are a bit of exotica so have a degree of desirability. However they have reliability comparable to Ducati 6 years ago, only go moderately well, have the build quility of Trabant and are owned by wierdo's. So basically no I wouldn't want one and yes he's talking bollocks.

Cool, my suspisions were correct then, hes the sort of bloke who has everything better than you have. Although in this case his bike is as I dont have one.

I'd like one, and yes, it is a bike us 'normal people' aspire to. However, they've not that quick for a 750 (more comparable to a jap 600 in terms of power) and I'd have a 996 over one any day of the week. 'All show and no go' is perhaps a little cruel, but it'll probably hit a nerve if you were to mention it in an MV conversation.....
Italian Bike mag did a 900 conversion and a general make over for an additional 12k, now that was a nice bike!

I've been fortunate enough to spend 8 hours riding the lanes of Oxon/Berks/Bucks/Hampshire while swapping between an MV F4 Senna and a Ducati 998R.

Based upon this day, IMO the Ducati is a massively more competant bike (but will set you back £18k, £2k more than the 'Senna' version F4). However, park them both up and the crowds gather around the MV, as not many realise the significance of that little 'R' on a 998 Ducati...

Of course they have very different riding characteristics. The Ducati is massively powerful from low-revs, the MV is nothing until you scream it full of revs and redlines. But then there's nothing wrong with that!

Most bikers would love to own either of them tomorrow. I'll just wait until they've depreciated a bit...

I own an MV and a ZX7R. The ZX7R has hardly moved since I bought the MV. They don't cost £12K - OK I paid about that but they at that time you couldn't get one here so I went to Italy - a perfect one will cost about £9K or £11K for a new one.

They're not the fastest bike around, a bit quicker than the ZX7R BUT it'll still do 170 mph and gets there quicker than most people can handle. I will never sell this bike and if the 1 litre version is ever produced I'll buy one. The handling makes you feel wonderful, it's incredable beautiful, extremely well engineered and designed, and is very reliable.

In the end it all comes down to what does it for you. I recently bought a Maserati over a Porsche because it has a lot more character.

But anyone who thinks that they're better than everyone else because of something they've bought (or slags off everyone who's bought a particular product) is probably a w@nker.
