My better half has recently started work for a company connected with the motor trade. Her main effort is expended in local offices however today she needed to pop to Chichester for a meeting (only 50 miles or so). On her way home along the M3 she experienced a rear tyre blow out (VW Golf) and luckily made it safely to the hard shoulder. Having got back to the office not only have her company offered to pay for the tyre as she was on company business but she got all 4 tyres (badly needed) done for half price, a mere £120! I couldn't get 1 done for that! I thought to myself my company would never do that, then I realised I work for myself! What a good bunch though....

I have a friend who worked for HMG (a civil servant). On the way to a meeting he crashed his car so didn't make the meeting. His generous employers refused to pay anything, not even the mileage prior to the prang as he hadn't completed his official duty.

With no contract to protect them, no by rights access to employment protection laws (crown exemption), poor pay, little job security and a crap pension scheme why do people bother with Government Service?
