Stalker admits harassing Ken Dodd's partner
A woman obsessed with Ken Dodd has pleaded guilty to harassing his long-term partner and setting fire to the comedian's home.
Ruth Tagg, 34, of Bristol, sent six indecent photographs and 12 letters and cards to Dodd, all of which were opened by his partner Anne Jones.
She also sent a dead rat and three T-shirts bearing offensive messages to Miss Jones, whom Tagg saw as a rival for Dodd's affection.
Tagg pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to harassing Miss Jones and arson being reckless as to whether life is endangered.
She was remanded in custody for psychiatric reports to be carried out. Mr Justice Morland did not set a date for sentencing but said he hoped it would take place before Easter.
Tagg tried to torch Dodd's house by pushing burning rags through the letterbox on October 11, 2001. The fire caused £11,000-worth of damage to the ground floor of the house in Knotty Ash, Liverpool.
Tagg knew that Dodd and Miss Jones were not in the house at the time and a more serious charge of arson with intent to endanger life was dropped by prosecutors.
She sent the various items to Dodd and Miss Jones between July 2001 and May 2002. She also admitted stalking Dodd by attending several of his performances and sitting in a prominent place.
Dodd and his partner attended court to give evidence but did not need to go into the witness box after Tagg pleaded guilty.
There must be something seriously wrong with her if she has to be obsessed with Ken Dodd... , ;confused: surely there are far better people to become obsessed with.
