Thought it might be fun to get first hand details of some classic cars as well as the modern ones.

Did anyone ever own a Mk II RS2000? Care to tell us what it was really like?

My 'choices' for popular classics would be:

Ford Capri 3.0/2.3/2.6/2.8
Datsun 240Z
Austin Healey 3000

Fiat X1/9?

Should be able to lay my hands on the following for classic reviews:

1934 MG Q (could ask MG for the latest Q?)
MGA
MG TC
1967 Mini Cooper S (immaculate) + the current car for a comparison
1979 Merc 350SL + a current car (last ever SL of the old shape) for comparison
Jaguar XK140
Porsche 912

All the above have been fully restored and are as new, albeit owned by different individuals.

I had an RS2000 Mk11 but am too old to remember what year it was (1978'is?). I lived on the Isle of Man and rallied it a couple of times in the local rallies.

It handled really well but the problem was that the front bit, which I remember was one piece, cost £200 then (which was a lot of money in those days!) and so, unless you put the RS1800 front on it, it became an expensive hobby driving into ditches etc- or was that not the intention?

It drove really well, especially on rally tyres, which were really unsuitable for coming over here and driving on motorways. Great car, great fun though and few speed limits over there. Happy days!

Why not have reviews (memories?) written by PHers for *any* car, not just classics?

Even good reviews of bad cars could be amusing, given some of the writing talent displayed in the gassing station.

Might have to cap the number of TVR reviews though

Got some highly amusing memories of a blue allegro estate (not remotely smutty unfortuneately)...

Iconoclasts view: Marina=good car, built abysmally SD1=cracking car built even worse. I had to drive an SD1 for a while when they first came out, good in many ways. I'll compose a review if anyone considers it a classic.

I'd like to see reviews of exotic classics.

e.g.

Ooh, I see Jondokic used to have a Lamborghini Miura, it would be nice to hear more about the car as a owning/driving experience! (Warts'n'all please).
