Weird AVI Sound format - Anyone help?

I've been passed an AVI that appears to have no sound (when played through Windows Media Player), but when I use VirtualDub to look at the sound properties, it tells me this stuff:

Sampling Rate: 48000Hz
Channels: 5 (Stereo)
Sample Precision: 0-Bit
Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)
Preload Skew: 28000 samples (0.58s)

This looks like it has sound, but I can't hear it using Windows Media Player (or strip it out using VirtualDub).

Any ideas?

Hi GL,

Try downloading the AVICODEC utility from : http://avicodec.duby.info/ this will tell you the CODEC used to encode the audio channels. Once you know the CODEC, you can go download it from www.moviecodec.com

Try downloading GSpot from www.headbands.com/gspot/ and get it to look at the AVI file.

It will tell you which CODECs the file needs and whether or not you have them installed. It also sanity checks the file to make sure it is not corrupted or truncated.
