Hello PHers,

I'm struggling to think of suitable car options for the wife and would love some suggestions from the PH collective if possible.

We have recently moved to a house where in bad weather a 4wd vehicle really makes day to day living easier, so the wife now wants rid of her BMW 1 series.

So far positive responses have been gained when she has been shown:

Audi A3 Quattro models
Audi S3
VW Mk5 Golf R32 4Motion

She prefers a 4wd car to the usual 4x4 choice, good spec and some getup and go are important, hence the R32 & S3 choices. The budget is up to the 20k mark, all suggestions gratefully received.

We had a A3 quattro Tdi for 3 years and couldn't fault the car at all.

A lot better than our Passat P.O.S. !!!

I wouldn't bother with an S3. Mine was useless in the snow last year (admittedly with factory supplied tyres).

The cars you have listed are likely to have low profile performance tyres to make best use of the vehicle's performance. If you want something that can deal with the snow you need four wheel drive matched with suitable tyres.
