Seems a London street race may be back on the cards. Funding has apparently been secured, with backing from the Mayor.

I can't see it happening. What people will imagine is a race around some famous landmarks in central London, probably taking in Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Trafalgar Square, whereas what will be on offer will be some Mickey Mouse track around the Docklands, like that pitiful FE race they had there which appeared to be located in and a around a big warehouse near the City Airport.

yes

Even if they did by some miracle get approval to race around the proper streets and landmarks, I doubt the event would actually go ahead - the Insulate Britain mob would probably turn up and glue their hands to the tarmac.

yes

But Mickey Mouse won't bother Khan, as he's desperate for cash following his scrambled egg TFL accounting that pre-dates Covid. A slippery character who might try and slip such cackery through just for the coin.

Let's face it most of the street races are rubbish anyway compared to a purpose built circuit. Monaco looks nice on the telly but as a race it's a bit meh!

I thought that the Mayor would veto it at the first opportunity given how un-green the whole thing is.
Very surprised to see he’s right behind it.

Still, nothing changes principles like few £££££.

The runoff could be a problem but it would certainly be an interesting way of enforcing track limits.

DM has the following graphic but I assume that's not the track layout as the straight at the top would be the A1020 with the roundabouts in it.

Incorporate one of the many non-rail tunnels under the Thames that are wide enough?

Take that Monaco.
