The VAG fart - what causes it ?
Discussion
My 340i makes a similar noise, not quite as loud as my mates Golf R (with a Remus) but still makes the noise. It doesn't really do it on full chat though, you have to change up at about 4k on part throttle, thinking about it, it's more of a crackle than a fart. It also makes the burbles and stuff listed above, it's nice with the MPPSK though because a flick of the switch and it's quite with the valves shut.
I like the sound tbh, each to their own though.

Make the same noise too when the TC kicks in.
Mine doesn’t do it that much as I had the dsg ECU mapped to make it change quicker so it makes more of a pop than a fart (more like a quieter version of a btcc car)
My Cupra was the same, APR Stage2 with TCU flash as well, it popped rather than farted. Mine doesn’t do it that much as I had the dsg ECU mapped to make it change quicker so it makes more of a pop than a fart (more like a quieter version of a btcc car)
Porsche doesn't do it.

Increasingly seems to appeal to a certain type of urban 'driver' mainly those from inner city Chavland with no more than 2 brain cells who values fake s
tty sound over substance.

king irritating regards.
Innit bruv.
The favorite on that scene round here is super loud gunshots, most often from the back of a 2.5 Focus ST.

I’m pretty sure if you took the cats and silencers off any modern car it would do that poppping sound although I appreciate we’ve gone off topic from the op’s question.
It’s down to the pulsed air system which bleeds air into the exhaust as part of the emissions system. Helps keep the cats hot and clean, put simplistically.
It’s part valve via ecu control and part air box / exhaust plumbing.
In modern motorbikes the first thing you do when you put a performance exhaust on is disable and block what most people call the PAIR (pulsed air) system because all it does is make the exhaust hotter than normal and make those silly bangs, which are much more evident without cats and restrictive silencers.
Therefore what people think makes their car sound badass is actually the sound of inefficiency. Although removing the PAIR system doesn’t itself have any performance benefits besides reducing exhaust heat.
If you run cats you still need the pulsed air so that they don’t get blocked, which is I suppose besides the perceived cool sound, why people do it.
