It's PH so everyone has one in their garage.......

I still think it's a cool thing, a dream car that I have owned from new for 20 years this week and I still love having it in my life. Dozens of time I have been asked in the street if I want to sell it as it does things a modern car won't do.

It's not anything special but special to me, one of the very last 3 doors imported into this country and dark green instead of the pictures in the link. Never let me down. I said to my wife if it passes the MOT I should sell it as I have no real need for it now. She said don't you dare if a zombie apocalypse comes I want to be in that that car.

Link to pictures of what it is....

20 years and same car , I’ll bet that’s been cheap motoring.
Good stuff , recently got rid of a car after 13 years from new ( Cayman ) and I’m still not sure I should have .

Very very cheap motoring

Bought well with big discount 19K new, less than a grand a year depreciation owes me nothing.

Will tow anything, go anywhere, on its original clutch/exhaust only normal servicing plus shocks, a couple of fuel filters, a mass air flow sensor, hub seals and a little welding in vulnerable areas.

Nice. I've only had it 7 years, but my car will be 22yo in January and is used daily.

That's fantastic and I bet you have created a strong emotional bond with the car, as well as saved a lot of dosh.

I would have loved to do that and remember many of my past cars while wondering why I sold them.

The longer I have owned a car was probably 3 or 4 years but I intend to l keep my current one for a long time, at least 10 years.

It's only averaged about 6,000 miles a year so not high mileage but just keeps on chugging along.

no other drivers give me grief on roundabouts or meeting points compared to me driving other cars, it's cool.

Just to say it carries my dog but I don't like dags

I bought my Ranger Wildtrak in Jan 2013 in Thailand, but due to Covid and other issues, it’s done less than 10,000 miles in nearly 10 years. Such a shame !

I bought an E36 2.5 in line 6 petrol in 1998, from new, kept it for 19 years. I would have bought the same car again if it was for sale. 5 years in a 335d, hope to keep that until cheaper and wider choice of EVs (and better charging infrastructure comes along).

The longest I’ve owned a car is 4.5 years, although I’ve still got my first bike 22 years on.

I have had the current pickup for two years now, which is usually when I replace things. At the moment I’d just replace it with a similar vehicle so can’t really be arsed!

I take it you’ve had other cars along the way?

Mum bought a brand new Mercedes w124 estate in 1990. Dad a Volvo 240 estate.

They both still have them. Both still running well.

Those patrols are fantastic. We have the older shape 4.2 in the family, doesn’t do much now bar the odd bit of towing duties but it’s brilliant to sit in.

Owned the Frogeye for 19 years now, and the Golf is a 2011 MK6, its got a few car park knocks, but only 1 v small rust spot on the bonnet, and just turned 160,000 km, still runs like new.

I doubt we will be changing the Golf anytime soon, roll on 20 years!

My (wife's) car is a Toyota Yaris - have you heard of them?

Bought new in April 2002 from TW Hawkins of Ewell. Every panel is marked. 83,000 on the clock. No plans to sell it any time soon.

Tyres. 2 new batteries. Silver 1.3 automatic. er, that's it really.

Bought MrsMDMA’s MK5 Golf new in 2005. She still has it now. 17 years and counting.
She’s going to run it until it dies, then get another. Paid £12,000 for it back then. BOE inflation calculator says that’s just over £19,000 now. Not sure you can get a new Golf for £19,000 now though?

My "weekend" car is a Nissan 350Z 2004: Passed every MOT with only a couple of advisories during that time.
