RML reveals first production 'GT Hypercar'

Project 39 has become the GTH - and the very first one is at Salon Prive this week

Even in a saturated supercar space, RML’s Project 39 certainly grabbed people’s attention. Chiefly because it was RML, winner of umpteen sportscar and touring car titles across the globe, taking on a contemporary street machine project - a very exciting prospect.

It was also impossible to ignore the P39 because it looked incredible, recognisably derived from a 911 but with a healthy dollop of motorsport attitude on top. Carbon bodied, with a Litchfield-tuned flat-six and boasting a tonne of downforce, RML employed no half measures when it came to its 39th project.

Now the car known as P39 has been officially christened the GT Hypercar, or GTH, and this is the first of 39 customer examples. Not only is it notable for its Storm Purple paint (including roof and bonnet in tinted carbon), the gold wheels and the hand-painted accents, this GTH is also one of 10 RML 40th Anniversary Special Editions.

That means the Performance Pack (for the full 920hp) and the ‘highest level’ Track Pack, including rear seat delete with roll cage. Add all that to the active aero and damping and the GTH promises to be a phenomenal driving experience. We eagerly await confirmation of the projected 6:45 Nordschleife lap announced last year…

Michael Mallock, RML’s Board Member for its Bespoke operation, said of the GTH: “This is a proud day in RML history. I could not be more thrilled with how the GT Hypercar has turned out. It was an ambitious project but it has beaten even my exacting expectations on road and track. I congratulate and thank the whole RML team for making my and our customer’s dream cars come true.”

Another must-see at Blenheim Palace this weekend, certainly - expect a few more GTHs to leave RML HQ in due course. And it doesn’t sound like all are spoken for just yet, so for those feeling especially flush there might be an allocation to reserve…

Not that RML will give a c**p about my opinion, but the rear of the car does look like they've simply inserted the car into a box comprising the spoiler, venturi and rear side panels and then sprayed it all to match.

Weird one for me this. I don't dislike it, but not sure I can get that excited about it either. It's a bit too "modified 911" in a way. That's not a bad thing as such, but I think I would have preferred if they'd gone their own way a bit, or tried to differentiate it a bit more from the 911 (like Tuthill did with their GT1 homage).

Same here. Looks like it could be beautiful, but rear wing doesn't integrate well. Can see they've tried to have the rear body angles mirrored on the wing, but just looks a bit jarring.

Big 911 fan. But that looks wrong. Most comments so far concern the back but it’s the front that I think is too large and visually heavy.
Quite like the colour….

Color is nice - Wonder what it looks like in natural light.
Car looks a bit too much like a Mansory/Gemballa/Techart creation, which is not really to my taste

It's rare that you see a really interesting new colour on a car, but that ticks the box.

Rest is bordering on "Max Power" upgrades....

They did the other week at Silverstone with Tom Chilton driving, we were next to them in the paddock shaking down a Cayman.

Personally and the GTH looks/ performance aside, I'd of expected better than this from RML.

Yet another identi-kit modified 911, nothing about it screams this is the pinnacle of what RML can deliver. Shame really....

I'm no stylist, and my wallet can just about stretch to a matchbox version of this, so my opinion is worthless, but I agree the rear wing end plates look like they're from a different car. They could either be integrated like a Porsche 961 or fully separated but lined up like a Senna. I'm sure my opinion will leave a large dent in their sales...

I have a soft spot for RML but aesthetically this doesn't work. Specifically the rear 3/4.

I think its good, although those ugly big side panels on that rear spoiler should go, they don't fit.

I assume you can just flick a switch, the rear end un-docks from the car and turns into a fully armed defensive position laying down heavy fire while the bond villan gets away in the 911.

I really like that.

Wouldn’t drive it myself but looks great to me.
