Should SUV drivers pay more to drive & park?
Discussion
As this article says what happens in Westminster often spreads to the rest of London and beyond:-
Is London set to put the brakes on SUVs? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp3e0xyyldvo

Everything is about tax, extracting more and more from people - they can just f
k off at this stage.
Look at why people have them:
Speed bumps, everywhere
Potholes, everywhere
Practicality
Safety (for the people inside)
Then look at the manufacturers - some have got rid of "normal" models and now only sell SUV shaped cars.

If they’re that worried about SUVs an outright ban would be better.
I’d be interested to see their definition of SUV.
I reckon they’ll base any new charges on weight.I’d be interested to see their definition of SUV.

They also typically have systems on them that dramatically mitigate the chance of any collision occurring in the first place.
Not all of them. At work we run 8 diesel Seat cars and 4 Volvo EVs. Two of the Volvos gave gone out of control at parking speeds and badly damaged parked cars. Drivers alleged they surged. I suspect drivers error. In any case the systems failed to stop the crash. None of the 8 diesel cars gave been in crashes.

Runaway electric cars? They all do that, sir. Nothing to do with the driver, oh no.Drivers alleged they surged. I suspect drivers error. In any case the systems failed to stop the crash. None of the 8 diesel cars gave been in crashes.
See? Oh.

The blanket approach to SUVs never really stacks up.
1.0 Dacia Duster = too big, heavy and inefficient. Should face additional charges.
RS6 = absolutely fine, crack on.
Indeed - PUG 306? pay London ULEZ. R8 V10 - exempt :-) ( yeah , I understand the pug is filthy, but I have TEN cylinders! - one of us is wantanly burning fuel :-) ) 1.0 Dacia Duster = too big, heavy and inefficient. Should face additional charges.

It’s stupid, a lot of London councils already vary the parking charge via CO2 output.
What would make a Nissan Juke worse than a Rolls Royce? Because it’s an SUV? It’s not a perfect system but CO2 output pegging captures their ‘impact’ pretty well.
When EV’s reach a certain threshold of adoption, they can switch to vehicle weight.

Friends got a 2021 ID3. Which weights from 1805kg.
Our Freelander 2 sd4 weighs from 1805kg.
Figures taken from google searches. Wouldn’t have thought they would be so close given one’s a suv and one’s a hatchback.
Which are rookie numbers compared to the 2.6+ tons my Discovery 4 weighs.

Equally I worry that with EVs and all the fancy stuff they come with people aren't driving with the same level of focus they used to, driving and MK2 escort required a level of focus, planning, skill, driving a Tesla is almost too easy. So, whilst the cars might be getting better, are the drivers getting worse ?
Back on the main topic, I think there should be a higher charge for weight and size, the Japanese system of kei cars etc seems a good model to follow
