A Canadian businessman called Bill MacEachern bought a Porsche 930 Turbo new in 1976. He still owns it and has now done over 826,000 miles. Are there any other 49 year old one-owner cars?

It's a pretty phenomenal piece of kit. Not pampered and with more than double the original power, there's a really nice video about the owner and his car on Youtube. A true Pistonhead

Cost per mile is probably quite reasonable now. I once saw someone on here write that 30k was high mileage and they were serious.

There's atleast a couple of MK1 Honda Insights in the US with over 1 million miles on the clock. Not bad for a 850kg 1 litre engined car.

It’s probably been ‘cheap’ motoring total cost compared to people that get a new car every 3-5 years and take the hit of depreciation on each. Great story.

One owner from new and 3,200,000 miles.
What a great story. I drive all my cars, if not i get rid. I simply cannot understand people that buy cars to look at.

A very peculiar modern phenomenon.

Eh? Not difficult for the average brain. More than one owner, including his dad. Then his uncle owned it since 67.

But it's Sunday, so probably wine brain?

Good stuff. Although I have never kept a car that long, it confirms that it is often worth buying something nice and keeping it. You get lots of enjoyment if you buy what you really want, and over the long term, it is better financially.

Bought by a PH'r 3 years ago off the original owner, so 51 years owned from new, so the 930 guy has another 5 years to go yet.

I love stories like this, absolutely brilliant...cars are designed to be driven after all. I saw Wayne Carini with Irv's P1800 on an episode of Chasing Classic Cars. I'm sure it was over 3 million miles by that time and the family still owned it though they must have been thinking of selling it for Carini to have it on his show. Volvo gave him a new 780 coupe when he hit his first million and he put 450,000 miles on it!!!

Anyone else get the impression old Bill was holding back while they were out on the drive at risk of scaring the young whippersnapper interviewer. Really enjoyable and interesting interview.

2 years in terms of the car being a one owner, I've had a Z4C for nearly 19 years but I probably won't make it to still be the owner in another 32.

Guilty as charged !!

I have an 1968 MGB GT owned for 45 years. A 21st birthday present from my wife, all three of us are still together and continue to polish up reasonably well.

Plus one the the last classic Mini Coopers owned from new (25 years), Lotus Exige RGB (15 years) and a BMW Z1 (25 years) total mileage over the years ... a shameful 31k miles.

Mind you ... they do look good !
There's an Emira owner with 600 miles after 3 years. Car still serviced every 12 months! WTF?
