Don't really know where to put this but this is my problem.
I have just bought an 11 plate Scenic which came with 2 key cards 1 of which did not work.Put a new battery in it and it appears to work okay but when i insert it into the scanner behind the gear lever my instrument panel displays the message key card not recognised but it still allows me to start the engine.I haven't tried actually driving the car with it yet just starting the engine.Any one know what the issue may be and 14 year old French electrics not withstanding will it cause any problems in the future.

It has probably been sat on in a back pocket .

Not difficult to fix, YouTube is your friend, and a soldering iron.

There seems to be quite a lot of key card repairers about...?

I'd send it off to one of these guys. Would save a lot of faffing.

Just a thought but does it have the correct battery ,I mean the actual car not the fob,I had a Megane a few months back that did this and couldn’t get to the bottom of it ,took it to my local mechanic and said straight away …wrong battery

Surprised it allows you to start the car if it says key card not recognised.

Inside the card there is a transponder about the size of a 2p coin and the solder to the circuit board breaks. If you insert a butter knife into the slot and apply pressure to the card this will most likely make the connection and allow the car to start.

The only way to fix this is to cut the card apart and resoldering the joints. You can buy replacement key card cases on eBay or as others have said, send it away to be repaired.
