Back from warmer climes for a few days and bought the sun with me. I got a luxury lift down to Goodwood where my GRY lives so thought it would be interesting to compare these two. The Rangie is an impressive bit of kit, which I suppose it should be for £125K - almost silent, rapid and super comfortable. There is no way I'd choose an EV over it. It's a very big car but it shows how big even the Yaris is, which is almost always described as small, but really isn't.

Is that a long wheel base Range Rover?

I drove from Hampshire to mid Wales in a new one (RR not Yaris) the other week - they are a long way away from my previous 2005 Supercharged RR. As you say, silent and comfortable - pretty amazing vehicles these days.

I always go by the rear door drop-glass. LWB is wider/longer.

I think the Caterham is riding a little high... Parking next to SUVs can be a pain.

I'm sorry, I don't know the first thing about Range Rovers.

An EV would be silent, rapid, comfortable and also far less polluting.

Probably faster as well.

Plus you wouldn’t have to visit petrol stations and queue with the hoi polloi buying their Wild Bean Cafe delicacies.

Why wouldn’t you consider one?

Speaking for the owner.

He has no concerns about pollution.

Any increase in speed would be utterly pointless in the RR. It's a luxury carriage, more than capable of any performance you might require for the type of vehicle. Check the numbers.

The RR is used for transport between homes, cities, airports and personal vehicles. An employee fuels it, washes it and stocks the mini bar.

I can ask the owner more questions but I can't see the point. For example, I could ask why not get a top of the range Kia or Hyundai or any other high end EV but I can picture the look I'd get.

You are on Pistonheads, most posters arent that concerned about pollution, I do what I can but at the end of the day how much will you reign in what you are doing and have less enjoyable alternatives, only here for 80 or so years if you are lucky, so its a trade off.

I dont do many miles, I cycle and walk a lot, am fairly diligent about recycling but I will occasionally hop on an aeroplane to go somewhere interesting, Cork in a week or so for a day, plane is going anyway with or without me.

Or is it because someone is rich, and seemingly honest here.

This is why they are reducing the speed limit everywhere...the cars are so huge they take up too much road

But the question is why would you not look at an EV instead of it?

He seems pretty happy. Selfish? Maybe. I'm not sure he's alone in his thinking. He just isn't constrained by budget and has no interest in virtue signalling.

He's hardly using a 50s diesel generator on wheels to get around in. He does have kids - loads of the buggers by different women. I can ask if that affected his car choice but I think we're back to getting that look.

It sounds like you try to achieve a balance. If someone described you as 'no concerns re pollution' how would that make you feel?
