I have to say that I was seriously impressed by the automated responses from my sister’s iPhone and I watch when she crashed her car.

Apparently the watch/phone combination called the emergency services automatically and advised me by text as I’m one of her emergency contacts.

I had no idea that the watch worked this way. Impressive imo.

I have had mine do that, I cancelled it in time as was not hurt, just an abrupt shock.

Clever stuff.

The Apple system is really good and has saved a number of lives since it went live.

You actually only need an iPhone for it to work (iPhone 14 or newer).

IIRC the cellular version of the watch can also do it without a phone present (8th gen watch or newer).

It helped catch and convict these guys: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yrzy7gkdxo

They didn't realise it had called the police and what they were saying was being listened to.

My mate crashed his motorbike, his iPhone called the police and because he had a Cardo headset connected to his phone on his helmet he could speak to them from the farmers field telling them he was fine and walking. If he wasn’t or was unconscious different story, it amazing that iPhone/Apple Watch etc do all that.

She’s home now and seems ok. Her car’s not looking great though.

Don’t new cars in the UK come with built in emergency call as standard?

It’s part of the Euro NCAP requirements and supposed to be free for several years.
