Behold the new Lamborghini Revuelto SV
How much more has the 1,015hp Revuelto got to give? A Hockenheimring lap record suggests plenty...
Though its arrival was as predictable as autumn following summer, Lamborghini has shouted much about the Super Veloce version of the Revuelto - perhaps it hardly needed to when the standard version outputs 1,015hp and has already been declared a masterpiece. But now we know for sure that the SV is inbound because its maker has confirmed its reveal date for August 14th (guess where that’s happening), while simultaneously announcing that the model has already set a new production car lap record at the Hockenheimring.
According to Lamborghini, it chose the circuit as it is regarded ‘as one of the most authoritative references for evaluating a vehicle’s dynamic capabilities, both for professional racing drivers and gentleman drivers’ - which might be true, although it does rather ignore the inevitably greater acclaim that might have come with a Nurburgring time. (Who could forget the mildly controversial 6.44.97 lap that Marco Mapelli set in the Aventador SVJ back in 2018?)
Still, with the Mercedes-AMG One continuing to ruin it for everyone else in the official ‘Super sports car’ category, you can see why Lamborghini chose an alternative venue - even without an obvious benchmark. For the record - and assuming it chose the full 2.8-mile GP circuit layout - the SV’s 1:41.6 was fractionally outside the old GT2 record set by a Ferrari 360 Modena GTC in 2010. A 992.1 GT3 Cup car is only half a second quicker - and we know how quick those are.
“The Revuelto SV has reached a level of performance we had never experienced before at Lamborghini,” commented Mapelli, again the man responsible for getting the best from its V12-powered flagship. “The extraordinary harmony between car and driver allows you to exploit its full potential, inspiring precision and confidence even at the limit. It is exactly this combination of performance, control and driver engagement that enabled us to achieve this result.”
Sadly, that’s about as close as we get for now to a technical description, the manufacturer clearly saving everything else for Monterey. As you might expect, the pictures suggest a fairly comprehensive overhaul of the aerodynamic addenda - topped, most significantly, by that fixed rear wing - though for everything else we will have to wait until next week. We’d assume more power, too, given the expansive possibilities of the powertrain, and the apparent excitement of the man in charge.
“The new Revuelto SV represents an extraordinary expression of our vision for a Lamborghini super sports car,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini CEO. “Every element of the car has been developed with the goal of taking performance to an even higher level, enhancing the driving engagement and emotion that have always defined our brand. The record achieved at the Hockenheimring is the result of this approach and demonstrates how innovation, technology and engineering expertise can be translated into tangible, measurable results.” Next Friday can’t come soon enough.
And you need a track to do it on.
So, what's the point? Answer: it's just a dick-swinging contest for the ultra-rich.
If you cared about driving, you'd buy a much lighter, manual car - probably with about half the power at the most.
With this, the electronics are doing so much of the driving for you. Otherwise, you'd crash.
